Impromptu coding stream for an hour or so. Bad Amiga mods and hacking on some ActivityPub nonsense twitch.tv/lmorchard/

(and by bad amiga mods, I mean some of them might be mine from 20 years ago)

Man, started the stream and almost immediately started getting sleepy. Will have to plan my impromptu streams to start earlier. And make them less impromptu

Is it weird that i kind of want to buy this Official Nintendo Player's Guide that someone else stuck Nintendo stickers all over?

Caught up on Killjoys from Syfy this weekend. Surprised that show made it past the first season, because it's weird and I like it a bunch. Seems like the story has gone way off the rails and into the weeds, but the whole aesthetic of the universe makes me very happy

Also caught up with Legion, another weird & wonderful show that I'm shocked made it past a first season. Kind of worried about it now, though

@antifuchs oh yeah, they're on season 4 right now!

Oh yeah, and that "RFC1122 1.2.2" tattoo I've been considering is a reference to “Be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others.”

@sanspoint My initial idea was like Courier or Inconsolata along the inside of my left arm, kind of like a cheat sheet for a test that I can look at

@sanspoint Heh, yeah I've heard that it's an ouchie there. So maybe something not elaborate is best for there if I do it there at all :)

@sanspoint Well, at least it doesn't have lots of spirals & curlicues? Still yeah ow :)

If I get a tattoo on my inside left forearm, I just hope it's easily reversed by the point the cyberpunk future arrives and I want to implant a display panel there.

(haha who am i kidding, i don't trust IoT right now so i doubt i'll trust jamming computers into my body any better)

@sanspoint Oh, I like that! Also oh that looks like a lot of poky jabby work too :)

@sanspoint Yeah I'm kind of like, if I'm going to do it in a monospace font, I want that linework to be super boring and precise. And hopefully that doesn't annoy the artist

Watching the Pokemon marathon stream on Twitch and watching chat spam singing along with the theme is oddly endearing twitch.tv/twitchpresents

Pokemon always felt problematic to me, though. It's cute & funny & all but also it's just like weird cockfighting. I want to learn about & make friends with animals, not abduct them and make them fight

Also is it kind of weird that I've always been pro Team Rocket?

@mconley WTF-- i mean lmorchard-question-mark?

So I mixed "Spaceship" by Alice in Videoland and "Starships" by Nicki Minaj on rave.dj to make "Sparships" - and I'm tripped out by how well it seems to have worked

rave.dj/6hE3e_dWrXSs2Q

I just tried crossing the Pokemon theme song with "Tom Sawyer" by Rush and now I have to stop doing that forever

@ericflo I think there *is* a cookie per instance - e.g. if you follow multiple people remotely from the same instance. Just can't do that cross-origin

@ericflo Yeah, there was some work toward "web intents" but... paul.kinlan.me/what-happened-t

@shazow Problem with that is RSS feeds don't send outgoing http requests when they change

@shazow Yeah, that's the thing - activitypub doesn't poll. And it uses the activity streams data model in a clean break from Atom/RSS.

Some folks have written mastodon bots that poll RSS feeds, though

@shazow @ericflo Yeah, that's why I mention the bots. An RSS-to-ActivityPub polling bridge bot is probably the best bet

@shazow @ericflo Sure, but that sounds like weird pain-in-the-butt legacy to maintain in Mastodon & friends. Like ensuring my cellphone can talk CB radio.

Running it through a bridge bot helps keep the concerns loosely coupled. An instance runner *could* run such a bot alongside their instance if they thought it was valuable.

@shazow @ericflo Maybe a more reasonable example is a cellphone listening to FM radio, since some folks do want that and some phones do that

@shazow @ericflo Sure, you could have a tool that polls multiple feeds & publishes to multiple outboxes (i.e. multiple usernames). A separate client from the instance that could run alongside. I guess that's what I'm calling a bot.

I would also say though that there's been some resistance against RSS cross-posting on a some instances because it's seen as noise - kind of shoehorning in content rather than conversation. Different audiences, different contexts, etc

@shazow @ericflo Of course, that's arbitrary per-instance ~culture~ because some folks don't even like seeing links to news articles roll in through the timeline

@pixel only while i do that, my arm starts punching me in the face until the upgrade completes. Then it moves to punching me in the gut while it reboots
