Seeing folks from mastodon.sdf.org and keep thinking "oh yeah, SDF, that place where I make an account every 4 or 5 years and forget about it"

and just now I remembered: "oh yeah, SDF, that place I made an account on in 1993 and got on IRC for the first time"

And I remember it was 1993, because I was visiting a friend I grew up with in Michigan who'd moved to Texas just before high school.

He dialed in and showed me how to get signed up with this lonestar UNIX BBS thing with a connection to the Internet.

And me having just read "Zen and the Art of the Internet" by Brendan P. Kehoe the week before I flew out to see him...

Oh and I also remember one of the first things I did in IRC was ask some guy if he was really from Finland. And he said yeah.

I asked him if he liked "The Sandman" comics and he said "sure, lots of us do" and it melted my brain a bit.

See, although I spent most of my social life on computers and dial-up BBSes in the 90s, I was limited to area codes near my house I could call for free - which was roughly a radius of 40 miles / 65 kilometers.

Europe was an exotic place way out of reach of my modem. Once, I got a second hand box of floppies with C64 warez snail-mailed from Germany and that was like an alien artifact.

Having some dude on IRC confirm that I was talking for free and without delay to Finland was a mind bomb.

And that's my brain dump of memories that suddenly burped up around the term "SDF" tonight :)

@Ricardus Haha, they "logged on to internet"

@Ricardus Also I think I might just have seen that episode back in the day :)

@snowdusk_@mastodon.sdf.org Also, I missed your show tonight, but dang that's a nice tracklist 👍

So, I'm continuing to tinker with @Insultron2000 on AWS Lambda.

Decided I needed a local server to run the functions for quicker iteration. So I made a small Koa app with a lambda event adapter.

Apparently this is the reverse of most folks, who seem to write the local server first and then adapt its routes to lambda. I could find a bunch of local-to-lambda adapter modules, but not really any lambda-to-local

I am probably doing this the extremely hard way

@ondra Results were good, but I switched servers at some point and never bothered to set it up again. Though, since then, Twitter & etc got more popular than blogs, so feed & link sources got a more sparse.
