Unpacking my coffee roaster for the first time since moving last summer. I tend to think I still a super newb at this.

But since I've kept all my empty bean bags, I realize I'm 20lbs into home roasting at this point.

I also still set off the smoke detectors

Super pro notes from today's roast:

Behmor 1600
1:45 preheat
1/2 lbs P1 A 12:00
First crack at 2:00 left
SMOKE ALARMS SHIT
Bumped time up to max 15:00, distracted by smoke alarms and missed exact time
Second crack with 1:30 left
Hit cool on crackles
Lots of smoke during cool eep

@dvshkn@mastodon.technology I started with a Fresh Roast iRoast2, which is a little 5oz air roaster. It was almost too much trouble for so little coffee.

The Behmor 1600 drum roaster I have now was twice the price but does 1/2 lb and has a lot more automation than the Fresh Roast. I'd say jump straight to that if you can afford it and the hobby appeals.

Otherwise, there's always just a pan and a source of heat and see what happens :)
