Took our boy Catsby to the vet, ironically in the same block where I crashed my bike a few days ago. Took the bus, this time. We both had us an adventure

@juliobiason I had it for a good 30 years, but lately want to do anything but code on weekends
Sometimes wonder what recruiters think when they send "just following up since I haven't heard from you" for the 5th time.
Also had someone claim to be a admin, intro me to a VP (who said hello), set up a meeting, then scold me for missing it - never once with a response from me
Like... do companies want folks who fall for these things?
I've seen a few discussions around enefftees and how they're favorably like showing off the brands you bought.
And I'm reminded of Cayce Pollard from William Gibson's Pattern Recognition who was so allergic to brands, she had the buttons on her Levis ground down blank.
Like, I don't have my crap together well enough to have my own anonymous yet personally distinctive "CPUs" of clothing, but it's a goal
It always used to confuse me why someone would buy a purse or a bag just tiled with the logo of the maker. Like, isn't that the ad-supported version? Shouldn't they have paid you for the billboard? I'd want a nice, well-crafted bag that has no indication who made it unless someone asked and I felt like answering.
I've since come to understand there's a brag ecosystem around that, but I've come to understand it akin to how I understand the habits of deep sea creatures
@brion@mastodon.technology Core wars, the productivity OS
@nolan For awhile, I had a collection of ActivityPub bots living in a static site in AWS S3 paired with a Lambda function for all the protocol bits. Totally different project than Mastodon, but it would be interesting to have a fediverse instance that just built a static site the whole time
@nolan Oh yeah, I forgot - I disabled the lambda function but the static site still exists :) https://botpub.lmorchard.com/
Hmm, maybe I should get back into fediverse bot-making. I miss my dumb little collection of idiots
The neat thing about those bots is that it was a whole independent fediverse "instance" built on a static website and a Lambda function. Didn't talk to a Mastodon API or what not. Just implemented ActivityPub directly
Of course, I learned a lot. Especially that one time one of my bots replied to another bot which replied back and so on - and I got a $40 AWS Lambda bill before I turned it off and put in the smarts to make it not do that.
@mdhughes hmm, yeah, my strategy was different. I made myself look goofy and my wife liked that
@sungo@nymwars.org yeah, i want some really well made, comfy hoodies with plentiful pockets that don't draw attention and can also be acquired in the future.
@drwho @sungo@nymwars.org oh that sounds wonderfully handy
@drwho @sungo@nymwars.org brb need to reread a bunch of william gibson
@brion@mastodon.technology alternatively: for the lulz
@typingmonkey yes, like very nice bioluminescent frill you have there. Very impressive, i have been told
