I think the writing prompt from my tarot thing wants me to tell a story about a shoplifter today?
@jns It's a thing with Tarot cards I started tinkering with last weekend! It's not all that great yet but it does things? https://lmorchard.github.io/tarot-thing
@jns Aw, thanks! Most of it's thanks to this data set with JSON and images of a whole Tarot deck, and I hacked together the web app glue to render some https://github.com/lmorchard/tarot-thing
Managed to finish today's writing exercise much earlier, rather than like right up before bedtime. And it's about a shoplifter at a convention
@fraying Nah, that looks like a fine use of TikTok. Half my feed is goats and cats now
@ifixcoinops@mastodon.social @craigmaloney I'm sure no one has ever poured an Jamba Juice into a Crazy Taxi PCB right?
@ballpointcarrot I keep wanting to get back to doing something like that. Keep starting and then wandering off and then the stack I picked is mostly irrelevant (to me anyway) by the time I get back :)
@ballpointcarrot Not sure if it would be interesting, but a few years ago I did have some minimal stuff working to run a few activitypub bots on AWS Lambda & S3 https://github.com/lmorchard/botpub
@mc @erosdiscordia Heh, yup, I still call myself that :D

Finally heard the new Bauhaus track “Drink the new wine” that they produced with an exquisite corpse technique. Heard the line “Not building a wall but making a brick” and I was like oh hey someone has an Oblique Strategies deck!
@brainwane Glad it landed! I wanted to come up with a character doing something obviously wrong but not entirely inexplicable.
@jalefkowit This was also the guy who wrote a really long ponderous article about how huge and branching his COVID-19 contact "bubble" was and how much risk his immediate family was exposed to - and then decided it wasn't worth cancelling holiday travel to see more family in 2020
@brainwane Oh, of those authors I'd say Dick is the only one I've actually read - so that's a nice reading list for me :blobthanks:
But yeah I do like PKD's portrayal of characters whose PoV maybe can't quite grasp their own subconscious motivations in between the lines. Trying to think of other authors who I've seen do that well - I definitely want to work on it more myself
Whoa. TIL that timeline-goes-sideways Plurk.com still exists?
@c0debabe :blobwave:
So, I had some ActivityPub bots running in AWS Lambda + S3 about 3 years ago. I disabled them when I lost interest, so that my neglect wouldn't cost me cloud hosting money if they ran amok.
Decided to revisit the project last night. I have no memory of how I disabled them, though a lot of the bits still exist in AWS. And, of course, all the dependencies in the project have bit-rotted. I might just start over semi-from-scratch if I find the enthusiasm
It's things like this that make me want to do more woodworking. The desktop I stained for my office like 7 years ago hasn't stopped working since then for no good reason
Of course, this is also why my 20-year-old blog and just about everything I put on the web these days are all just static files: They don't tend to decay much.
@thegibson Not too shabby! Also seems a bit more lively around here
@chrkrhc I started it, but then got distracted over to SMT IV. I should give it another try!
@jalefkowit Aw man, I loved that lil thing. I still have mine, though it hasn't powered on in years. Started getting into writing a few apps for it, too
Update: they brought my pants, finally
@absor70 I broke one of my Switch JoyCons for this cause!
@absor70 (and I'd do it again!)
Someday, I want to get back to streaming some Chiptunes & Tinkering from my workshop at our new house. Need to run some internet out there, first though
@george @bdimcheff instance all the community gathering places!
Just realized it's been 5 years since the last time I tried running. Yikes. One of those things I keep meaning to get back to. There was a year there where I was jogging 5k every other weekday
And when I say "running" I mean plodding along at 7-8min per km, nothing exciting. That I was completing the whole 5k distance was the important thing.
For a few years, I would start couch-to-5k in the spring, get up to 5k before summer, continue until fall, then Michigan winters & snow would stop me until the next spring. I bet weather in the pacific northwest would be much more amenable if I got going again
@JacksonBates Yaaassss, all the domain names and how odd they get is one of my favorite things!
@djsundog I remember when people on the street were looking for pokemon, but that's a totally different song
