Watched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds last night and I was pleased they went straight for the notion that Star Trek is a post-post-apocalyptic setting. Like, it’s a hopeful future, but also a warning.

I also have this head canon where Earth in Star Trek is like a Disneyland reconstruction of old places in slightly wrong locations, because the records were lost and the land was changed after wars and 100s of years recovery.
Like, yeah there’s a San Francisco, but it’s where Seattle used to be. Star Trek IV would have gone a bit differently. And Sisko’s New Orleans is further north, atop the ruins of Memphis, TN because the gulf moved inland. Picard’s Paris is actually in old central Germany, etc.
@spicytamazon @IceWolf Ughhh yeah, when I started doing more creative writing lately, I tried posting a few bits behind CW but they just ended up being multi-screen-long blocks of blur on a few clients
@spicytamazon Also, dang, I was nodding furiously along with all your NuTrek thoughts.
@spicytamazon @IceWolf yeah, alas, the official mastodon client did this with a few hundred words I posted last month, like 3 screenfuls of nothing with a “read more” in the middle :blobfrown:
@spicytamazon Among all the other things in there I'm nodding at, in particular I hated Nemesis and what they did with Data. Then Picard S1 comes along with "Data's back! oh and Starfleet just went ahead and ignored Measure of a Man! oh and Data's dead again [credits roll]"
So yeah, I'm not a big fan of Picard S1 either
@spicytamazon Not sure if you've seen if, but one of my favorite post-TNG stories was this Star Trek: Waypoint comics where Geordi was captain of a science ship mostly run by Data holograms https://gizmodo.com/geordi-la-forge-has-a-ship-full-of-datas-in-a-first-loo-1786994832
@spicytamazon It's just one issue, and I don't think it's canon, but it's canon for me personally
