Okay, so this may not be one of my better ideas, but a repair was attempted. Haven’t had the fortitude to apply power yet. Turns out 11 traces were cracked on the pcb

Ohhh holy shit it’s alive IT’S ALIVE and hasn’t let out any magic smoke yet! For context, this is a Commodore Amiga 1080 monitor that fell off a shelf and had a corner of the case bashed and the PCB cracked

This is the 4th CRT that I’ve worked on, so I guess that makes me a successful amateur TV repairman now

I’ve even got a special screwdriver with a big resistor soldered on for luring the lethal angry pixies out of the energized tube, which is always fun/terrifying to do

@gnomon heh, not a whole lot to it. And also a screenshot of someone using something similar. Sometimes it goes zot!

For even more context, this is what the damage looked like back in January when it happened. Wasn’t sure it could be saved

Now that I got that monitor working again, recapping and resurrecting this Mac Classic is next. Thankfully the battery hadn’t asploded before I had a chance to get into the case

Roasted some coffee this morning to avoid going to the store (thanks for the beans @ozten@mastodon.technology !)
