Trying to revive a 20-year-old iBook G3 and a) suddenly video problems because these things were known to have faulty GPU soldering and b) the hard drive is suddenly unrecognized. Tempted to toss it in the Willamette but the fish don't need a laptop.

Also I stayed up an hour too late playing Cult of the Lamb and feeling zombified today

Oh, I see (or rather hear): The hard drive inside is making very sad noises when it tries to spin up. There may be very good forgotten reasons why this thing has spent at least 15 years in a box

That's annoying, because although the hard drive in an old iBook G3 is replaceable, it requires dismantling the entire thing to get at it

@jakimfett I think it's IDE and I think I also have a replacement on hand. Will probably just defer it to the end of my long list of hobby projects.

More important thing was seeing if some data I suddenly remembered was still on the thing. But, if the HD is bad, then the data's gone and probably not worth more intensive recovery alas

@jakimfett I salute your box of old drives though :blobwave:

I blame my recent success with reviving a 68k Mac Classic for infecting me with a sudden fixation to blow the dust off this iBook. It was my second Mac ever. (The first one was also an iBook, but the cats knocked a full glass of water into it back in 2002)

Often, when a cat yells somewhere in our house, I yell back.

Just now, I mistook a baby crying outside for one of our cats and yelled back. I got a weird look from the parent. Oops.
