@briandunaway@mastodon.social Oh hey, I think I was just listening to you on that there Play Retro podcast!

@briandunaway@mastodon.social You may also appreciate my basement lair

I’m always a bit baffled whenever I’m reminded that pro gamers use mice as opposed to trackballs.

Like yeah yeah I haven’t myself been anywhere near being a good gamer for 20 years. And I first met trackballs thanks to Missile Command and Centipede in arcades.

But I always remember being able to do quick 180 turns to shoot behind me with a jump and a finger flick in Quake 2 / 3 & Unreal Tournament. Mice were always so awkward for that

@bhearsum Hmm, all the trackballs I tend to use are larger and involve fingers and wrist.

@takloufer On a trackball, that's like the difference between using elbow, wrist, or finger tips I think

@takloufer oh, elbow as in big wide palm-swipes of the trackball

@takloufer (but that might actually apply more realistically to the actual Centipede machine i have in the basement)

@takloufer also, to be fair, I’m not a particularly good high reflex gamer these days so… yeah

@elithebearded yeah, you gotta have some mass to those things

@gabek Sounds like the booted DNA Lounge, a business, and not so much jwz the person?

@penguin My people!

@antijingoist i... i did not know this

It's an absolutely bashed-together mess, but I just successfully managed to POST an ActivityPub message from an awful Rust program to a local dev instance of Mastodon.

But now that I have something that works, I can start tinkering with making it less terrible! :blobwhee:

@thegibson :blobsalute: :blobthanks:

@czottmann Oh this sounds super interesting.

I've currently got a couple obsidian-adjacent shortcuts on my phone, but they "cheat" by just appending text to a file that happens to also be used by obsidian

re: Morning pages feelings

@TQ Congrats on getting the pages rolling!

@thegibson time for the sword fights in the hall
