@cross In the mid-90s, my college campus had a shared IBM 3090 on which every student got an account. Folks mainly used it for email and didn't explore the menus beyond that.
Some of us, though, dropped down to command lines and learned REXX and read the docs. We traded hints & tips & such, occasionally got into mild trouble with the sysadmins.
I'm very very fuzzy on the details now, but I do remember a few dozen of us across campus learning how to use chat functions via dial-up connections from dorm rooms. We had so many late night sessions roping in roommates and other less tech-savvy folks who couldn't care less about REXX but wanted to talk.
I haven't really touched a 3090 since then, but every now and then I want to tinker again

@cross Also a weird thing was that I used a Commodore Amiga 1200 at the time and already sort of had REXX experience by way of Amiga REXX. A campus sysadmin actually called me at one point and asked "How the hell does a college freshman already know enough REXX to give me a headache" 😅
