Does it count as losing the “Let’s See If I Can Make It To January Without Hearing Wham!’s Last Christmas” Challenge if Wham!'s Last Christmas never STOPS playing in some part of my brain?

@mmayo you're welcome i'm also sorry!
@pixel ohno
One more Anchovy-related update for the evening: So, I bought a pack of wireless thermometers.
Assuming they’re at all accurate, the base station says it’s 62F at this kitchen window. It’s 40F outside. It’s 51F at my workbench.
And, uhh… 88F inside the cat carrier under my workbench. I think she’s doing just fine with the space heater on low.
No wonder she looks so cashed out in there. She's a little baked cat roll. (The wireless themometer widget is gaffer-taped to the back of the carrier)
Not so much worried about her getting overheated, since she's got basically no mass to her and she can exit the carrier whenever she wants to wander the larger shed / workshop area
But, I'm just facepalming that I've over-rotated on the project of keeping this cat warm to such a degree that I've given her a significantly warmer house than my own
Like, Anchovy is going to be disappointed when we eventually move her into the house proper. So cold. (Well, until she discovers lying on a furnace vent)
@whalecoiner @peaceful The reporting intern belly-crawled with care toward the chasm, lest they themself become sacrificial tribute to the stochastic void just ahead. From their pack, they pulled a 🍍pineapple and hurled it into the churn. After several heartbeats, they shouted, “H-have you any comment?”
@multimeric @adrianco not sure if there’s an ongoing initiative, but it’s definitely feasible. I tinkered a bit with some activitypub bots using AWS Lambda functions and S3 buckets (didn’t even really need a database). There’s also Pinafore, a fully client-side UI app which servers like GoToSocial use in lieu of maintaining their own.
The pieces are there, but they don’t self-assemble. Also I think maybe the setup story is easier so far for Mastodon?
Back to tinkering a bit more with ActivityPub stuff today, particularly toward interop with GoToSocial vs Mastodon.
GoToSocial is proving to be a bit pickier about protocol than Mastodon.
Latest thing is that Content-Type: application/json
is a no-go - the inbox only accepts a POST of type application/activity+json
Also, GTS validates names in mentions, not just actor IDs.
Both of those things took me spelunking longer into GTS source on a running dev instance than I expected. The responses from GTS are not particularly helpful in sleuthing why a particular POST wasn't accepted or seem to fail silently despite 200 OK
On the bright side, I need to learn some more golang for work, so it's some interesting spelunking at least
On the bright side, though, now I have some code in node that actually POSTs to inboxes on both Mastodon and GoToSocial. I should set up some dev instances of a few more fediverse servers just to further push my interop luck.
Ahhh, all this grungy crap feels like 2000s era RSS all over again heh
@jesse Yeah, there's definitely a need and I've been too busy / lazy to even think about filling it myself so far
Also have been finding this sish thing super handy as a self-hosted ngrok thingy for standing up dev instances of various servers at my own domain
@darius Oh that's neat! I keep meaning to do more with jszip, had one Mozilla project where I used it and I was like "wait I can zip right on the client?!"
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social I've also got a blog post brewing in my noggin about why not to start a personal instance: Main thing is you can miss out on a lot of the community and shared moderation features of at least a small shared server. I think there's a sweet spot in there
@sarahtaber Yeah, unlike most of the web, the About page of a Mastodon instance tends to list useful things like this. Looks like yours is here
@nicole It means somebody thinks you're special, and that somebody is you!
@nicole Also, if you want another ✅ , I'm slowly working on bringing back webrings https://fediverse-webring-enthusiasts.glitch.me/
@nicole Here's a fedi-ring link for you! Let me know if you ever want it removed. Someday I'll have a lil robot to manage that, but it's manual for now

@nicole @emceebois Yeah, if you want to join the ring, I'll add you and have a link for ya to use!
