@zenhob Well, if you feel like playing, I got it over here (as long as I haven't broken it)

@zenhob Though I guess if you really want to be a serious gamer, there's a LORD tournament over here ๐Ÿฒ

Hmm, apparently this unregistered shareware version of LoRD has some annoying limits.

And it seems like there might be, like, a guy at a company still selling reg codes for $15 but he may or may not answer.

And no oneโ€™s cracked this version or made a keygen - you know, for educational purposes.

Tempted to learn some DOS executable debugging. But also willing to fork over burrito money for LoRD

@gogobonobo The funny thing is that I actually did download the zip of this game via zmodem from another BBS ๐Ÿ˜„

@anildash IIRC, I was working at Y! when it launched and was a peak RSS nerd at the time. So yeah ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Shopping for doorbell chimes to hook up to a button we recently got installed.

Don't want a camera, unless it's one I build myself that stays off the cloud. Would kind of like one that pings my phone when the button gets hit. Seems like I'll have to build that myself too?

Will probably just buy the cheapest old-style noisemaker and defer cleverness to a later DIY project.

As a homeowner and a technophile, I wouldn't mind a few smart things in my house. But, dang-near every extant device in the product category is nothing I want to let in my door.

@mos_8502 Yeah, and even for color-changing lights, I'm personally pretty satisfied with a cheap RGB light rope with a crappy lil remote control

@outofband it's tragic

MH meh ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

We have contractors in the house doing work to address a water issue in an exterior kitchen wall.

The house smells like a Home Depot. Half of the trades-folks seem to have rattling deep-chest coughs, but I don't have the gumption to demand they all wear masks. They're all fine folks doing good work that I have no business DIY'ing. We're fortunate we can afford to pay them.

As a hermit, I know I'm particularly disturbed by stranger-smell in the house. And I still feel like there's a pandemic on. I'm trying to be copacetic with all this, but I admit my calm is damaged.

re: MH meh ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I guess tl;dr: I'm grateful we could get skilled folks in to fix our problem. I don't want to hassle them. It's weird when your home becomes someone else's work site.

I'm trying to keep the furnace fans circulating air and open a window in my office if only as a placebo for my anxiety. It would help if it wasn't 38F out today ๐Ÿฅถ

Cheddars is a reliable calm-enhancer

@pjbeardsley Yeah, I've been so far unconvinced by smart plugs even as timers. I have a high-amp timer that turns on power to our coffee pot & espresso machine every morning. We tend to get up at the same time daily, so it doesn't need smarts, just a clock.

I've got a few pairs of really comfy hiking pants that are rain & water resistant. The only problem is that they're water resistant from the inside, too. ๐Ÿคฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

@kattsdogma I think I saw this on an episode of That's Incredible from the 80s

@craigmaloney Though, real talk: I would like one of those for my computing needs

Well, I'm about ready to throw Barrier into the ocean after a week or so of trying to use it productively at my desk between a Mac and a Windows machine.

Keyboard input stops working occasionally until I put the Mac to sleep and re-wake. And now, the mouse wheel mysteriously stopped working. :thinkspin:โ€‹

@craigmaloney Oh yeah, those look like COMPUTER to me

@jxyzn Not sure, I may try that next. Kind of a pain since the keyboard & mouse are wired and fussily cable-managed and plugged into a thunderbolt hub for the mac.
