So I hooked up a dumb doorbell last weekend. Button, transformer, xylophone-style ding-dong'er, wires running along the basement rafters.
There had been wires in the walls for the ding-dong'er, but their location has been lost to time in this Old House. Didn't feel like making new holes in the walls, so the ding-dong'er is at the top of the basement stairs in the kitchen.
Well, it turns out we can't hear it upstairs in our home offices. I should find better place to route the wires for the ding-dong'er. That, or, like buy a ready-made wireless kit.
But, what am I researching instead? How to hook up a sensor to the wires so we get text messages when someone hits the button.
This is all as prophecy has foretold. I am never off my bullshit.
I also really appreciate they way Atlus has milked the same set of demon character assets for decades. Second only to Pokemon
@vortex_egg This is Soul Hackers 2, not a Persona but kind of a cousin to Personas in the Shin Megami Tensei family of RPGs
@vortex_egg itβs just alright. I didnβt buy it when it came out, but itβs fun enough for a few hours on Game Pass. It feels a bit like their Nintendo DS RPGs for gameplay, just with better graphics
@mhoye@mastodon.social I had to sing it to myself first
@JoYo back when I was into homebrewing, I had a batch of apfelwein that meant to vent out an airlock but it got clogged. Left it overnight and checked on it in the morning.
Jostling the airlock loosened the clog and a geyser of yeasty apple juice shot up to the ceiling for a good minute or so. Luckily it was in a basement next to a drain
@randomgeek what, don't you want the opportunity to move the needle at an early stage startup that's in an exciting growth phase to find a product-market fit in the exciting world of ghost kitchen NFT AI menu generation?

I need to put some laundry away but not yet #cats

Considering running 12VAC wire around my yard for landscape lighting.
Also considering 12VAC to 5VDC / 3.3VDC converters so I can nerdily attach microcontrollers & wifi cameras to the same power
@mos_8502 Yeah, 12VAC is a pretty common old standard. "Safer" than straight up 120VAC for incandescent bulbs around a yard. Pre-dates cheap LED lighting, but also seems a bit easier to get the power distributed over a few hundred feet than DC. You can also use it to run stuff like small water pumps for water features and suchlike.
@TheShellyTea @randomgeek The fun part is that I copypasta'd most of this from my inbox π¬
@tithonium Sure, though it'll probably take me a few months to get untangled from all the 12VAC wire in which I'll have somehow managed to mummify myself
@socketwench Yeah, doesn't really make for a real "gotcha" to point out that republicans did school talent shows in drag
@socketwench :blobyes:β ugh, yup.
@danhon That one time they tried to migrate over to git for some misguided reason, they ended up with Thomas Riker
@danhon like sure, sure it sounds appealing to have revision control to rollback your away teams, but dealing with merge conflicts induced by atmospheric interference is hell
@danhon you'd think tcp, but heh heh
Just had a dumb moment where I had trouble seeing something on my phone screen, so I stepped over to a window to see it in better light.
Oddly enough though, that helped because the auto-brightness kicked up and I did see it better
This moment from the same guy who sometimes walks around the house reading a paper book and absentmindedly wonders why the backlight doesn't work when I wander into a dark bedroom
That thing when a team releases a new feature after a lot of hard work, then gets a bunch of pushback & criticism from users, then tries to debate the users to prove them wrong
Oh dang, it's gonna be Eurovision time soon
@montag @thegibson π€ Hmm, is it too much that I reserve a moment every evening to praise our future robot overlords, just as a prophylactic?
The green dot versus my preference not to be perceived.
"I just saw you come online!"
"No you didn't. I am a diaphanous cloud of vapor. Your instruments mislead you."
"yt?"
"are any of us truly t?"
@madcap I have gotten SO many odd looks in my life while absentmindedly muttering "you get the ankles and I'll get the wrists" with headphones on
@maddiefuzz @thegibson meanwhile ποΈ
@antiheroine Congrats! Hopefully you'll sleep better?
@danhon edust assassin bobble head?
