I keep seeing recent takes about Mastodon "not being around in 5 years" from folks who seem to think this whole thing started in November 2022.

Mastodon was released 6 years ago in 2016. And it was a prettified version of what identi.ca started 14 years ago in 2008. And I'm probably neglecting to mention efforts started from before that.

Buds, this shit is ancient in internet years already. It's not new because you just noticed it. Like, sure, some truly significant growth spurts happened recently.

But all of this has been going on without you for quite awhile now. It will probably continue on after you've lost interest

Also, had my first day of Jury Duty today. I got selected for a civil trial, so that's what I'll be doing for the next couple of weeks.

@cinja I'm mainly stressed because it plucks me out of so much else I've got going on.

But, that said, I am a receptive sucker for all the civic duty talk and really do want to be a responsible adult citizen. And if I had a dispute that went to court, I'd want thoughtful folks in my jury too
