Thinking some more about cars reminds me that our last one before the panini was a Mini Cooper.
We liked that car, too. I'd kind of wanted one for years, even if it was literally painfully tiny for me. But it made sense to ditch it when the lease was up in spring 2020. We weren't going far, bikes and delivery took care of most things in the city. We got by like that for 3 years.
We might have considered another Mini, except:
a) the dude we dealt with at the dealership was a dicknose with a perfunctory facemask flapping around (pre-vaccine, in May 2020) and
b) while we waited car-less in the dealership for a bus back home, we overheard him and a couple other salesfolk making fun of our name (Orchard?) and mocking that we'd just moved from Detroit.
So, uh, yeah, it doesn't take much for us to decide never to spend tens of thousands of dollars at a place again
