@hellsop Yeah, I haven't really had that experience. My wife & I share the car. Between different preferences & weather, we're both constantly tweaking settings. And then we're each fiddling with different map directions and music or podcasts from phone, depending on who's driving or whether we're going together

@TheWayneGibbons On a quick googling, that sounds like my kind of car! But alas no longer sold and not sold in the US 😞

@twipped Yeah, we would have been a shoe-in for another Saturn. Nothing else GM really appealed

Thinking some more about cars reminds me that our last one before the panini was a Mini Cooper.

We liked that car, too. I'd kind of wanted one for years, even if it was literally painfully tiny for me. But it made sense to ditch it when the lease was up in spring 2020. We weren't going far, bikes and delivery took care of most things in the city. We got by like that for 3 years.

We might have considered another Mini, except:

a) the dude we dealt with at the dealership was a dicknose with a perfunctory facemask flapping around (pre-vaccine, in May 2020) and

b) while we waited car-less in the dealership for a bus back home, we overheard him and a couple other salesfolk making fun of our name (Orchard?) and mocking that we'd just moved from Detroit.

So, uh, yeah, it doesn't take much for us to decide never to spend tens of thousands of dollars at a place again

Hmm, I think I might be getting suckered into playing Honkai: Star Rail that came out this week.

Goofy anime sci-fi with turn-based combat and element-based enemy weakness. Feels like bits I liked in shin megami tensei games. It's a gacha game, but I'm not especially vulnerable to gambling collection exploits. Could be fun for awhile.

@rigger Maybe you can just ride on top like it's a motorcycle?

@rigger I mean, honestly my knees were up in my sternum when I tried to drive our mini, so it was not really ideal 😅

mastodon meta; cw / alt-text requests

I honestly don't understand the performative screenshot-drenched tantrums some folks throw around here when they receive nudges or even outright demands for content warnings or hashtags or alt-text on images.

If that's a person you want to keep talking to, maybe oblige & accommodate. If not, block / mute, move on.

Heck, if I'm annoying for whatever reason at all, block or mute me. No sweat, sorry to be a bother.

Not everybody needs to talk to everybody. Let the network sort itself out.

re: mastodon meta; cw / alt-text requests

@mcg Yeah, sometimes I get a "don't you know who I am, how dare you" vibe from notable persons around this. I think it's like a cold-shower effect coming from an established context and being surprised at the exposure to new randos

re: mastodon meta; cw / alt-text requests

@calcifer Yeah, I think that's the deal for many folks, and it's gross.

@evan Ohh, I kinda wondered why there was a serialization of activitystream stuff to Atom when it seemed redundant with JSON

re: fedi meta

@doot omg i forgot about big tiddy alf

@Dee contrails

which really makes the conspiracy theory folks feel at home

@rysiek @doot awoo

@evan Yeah, I was off staring at other shiny things during the process and only rolled in late

re: fedi meta

@doot @djsundog @rysiek sweet crimony i just spat coffee

@ted @dansinker Sounds like a relatively graceful handing over of the keys for sanity's sake, though. Not like a pulling of the plug.

(though if I recall, hachyderm was subject to chaos-monkey style testing with a physical wall-plug pull at some point)
