So this Lemmy thing isn't exactly what I wanted for personal link sharing, but it's been pretty neat to have an instance up and see federated groups & comment threads working.

Still got some troubleshooting to do, though, since posts on my new server don't seem to be recognized by Mastodon instances (but they do from other Lemmy servers)

I think there's an interesting instance-as-gateway thing going on here that we kinda lost with centralized services.

Like, I have a Lemmy instance and through that I can read & respond to threads in communities on other instances.

It's a lot like FidoNet back in the day, where your local dial-up BBS was your gateway to the federated echoes with discussion coming in from elsewhere

Mastodon has this too, of course, but Mastodon is less group / topic / community centered

Of course "activitypub as fidonet" is not a new idea. I'm just thinking about it again.

Another fun thing is that with Lemmy based on ActivityPub, I could still build my own link sharing server that works more how I'd prefer - but still interoperate with Lemmy and Mastodon and Calckey and.... (I mean, duh, that's the fediverse, but I think it'll be neat to see more kinds of things join the network)

Does a bike ride still count as healthy exercise if I plan to get a couple of slices of pizza and a beer in the middle of it?

@squeevening since weโ€™ve been bingeing Supernatural in our house lately, i think it fair to say this would be Deanโ€™s kind of bike ride

Food & alcohol

Current status: 45 minute bike ride followed by a slice and a pint

@geekgrrl hmm i had not :oof:

So, that's been a pretty good Saturday so far:

  • A 45 minute bike ride in the sun.
  • Lunch while finishing reading Becky Chambers' A Psalm for the Wild-Built (holy crap I think she's my new favorite author)
  • A 45 minute bike ride back home in the sun.
  • A shower and then probably more reading outside

@robdaemon Yeah, I gulped down the whole Wayfarers series in the course of a month ๐Ÿ˜…

Also now I really want to pedal off into the woods with a lil tea cart and live that and meet a robot

@Greg @lzg oh, i should go make an art too!
