@RenewedRebecca @retronianne I don’t know which was the better racket back then: compuserve or the psychic friends network

Wow, Twitter in Boulder goes from doubling in size to being evicted in about 2 1/2 years. Impressive.
I'm not really into "true crime" shows, except maybe these videos from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board
This song is bad ass. Also sounds like it should be on the soundtrack for N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth series
Huh. They really are making some e-ink goggles, I guess for that immersive lean-back reading experience?
@mhoye that's a piece of cosmic horror which had slipped my mind til now
I saw some news story this week, maybe about banned books or LGBT topics in schools or whatever.
Someone interviewed said something like, "Once you get information in your head, you can't puke to get it back out of there like a bad lunch or something. So we have to keep it from getting in there."
And I was just like holy shit this is abhorrent. These people need to be tarred & feathered. Grow the fuck up.
It's awful that these folks all get together and feel reassured in enormous righteous circle jerks about the proud indignity of having the weakest of minds.
If all it takes is the merest receipt of information to reprogram your head, then the last thing you should be doing is being loud & proud & asserting your opinion about jack shit. Go sit down and do the work on owning your own head.
Or, I mean, at least find more pleasant and productive circle jerks within which to spend your time. Like go find an actual circle jerk with some accommodating friends, it'd be healthier
@calcifer oof, I’ve heard this sort of thing before and I think my head, ironically, keeps trying to puke it out and forget it
Someone on @dtnsshow just asked “why does Disney’s Goofy have a dog?” And i think that sprained my brain for a minute or so, like ice cream brain freeze
@thekitmalone Over 8 billion people on the planet, surely it's okay if a few of us find someone else to talk to after being blocked.
I've been all out of steam for much in the way of side projects lately. But, this whole Reddit-splosion thing - and the enshittification of Google search results - really makes me want to finally find time to build some sort of federated link sharing thing that leans into socially-networked search. Like less emphasis on the discussion forum aspect and more on the discovery of good stuff via real humans aspect.
Though to be fair, I have a lot of project ideas these days like I have a lot of short story ideas that I'll never write
@sungo Yeah, I'm kinda thinking like it's a thing that can index & search links, ranked by the number of mentions in posts from folks you follow. Maybe offer a filter to include folks they follow, and etc.
Could support threaded discussion, but more as a drill-down optional thing and not the central pillar of the whole thing
@vertigo @rebelrebel62 @haitchfive @kithrup I want to say I remember seeing power strips kinda like that in the 70s or 80s when I was a kid. Just two long conductive rail slots, no 3rd connector for ground. Seemed real tempting to jam crap into.
On the other hand, ye olde track lighting is kind of like that
@vertigo @rebelrebel62 @haitchfive @kithrup Ah, yeah, Tap-A-Line!
"Tap-A-Line never received U/L* approval" 😅
@astatide Right now I need a wizard to banish capitalism so I don't have to work for a paycheck, but failing that I'm hoping I can find more tinkering motivation in a few months 😅
It's funny, I really wish I could retire so I could work
@Macross I have very distinct memories of seeing one of these and having a metal object in my hand and weighing options. I might have been 5 years old
@simon I don't think they check off all the items on your list, but I bought my first few domains from Pair Domains almost 20 years ago and have never transferred them away
