@lawlznet @seanb @socketwench Well, if I can't yell at celebrities and politicians and NYT columnists, then this place is an abject failure!

re: Integration of self

@evan Since I work mostly remote, one of my "online" personae is for work. So that's a carefully-maintained thing.

But also, yeah, it's a lot of energy to spend on upkeep between different masks, so I try to minimize their number and drift from whatever vaguely passes for my core personality. Definitely not a focused singularity in here though

bsky, feed algos on fedi

This SkyFeed thing over on bsky is kinda neat - UI for building apparently shareable custom feeds through filtering & matching.

Kind of want to build something like that for over here in the fediverse, but it's rather search-adjacent

Edit: oh, crud, I guess you can't see that without a bsky account. Here's a screenshot

bsky.app/profile/skyfeed.app

@onelson Well, this is more like being able to apply word matches and other filters beyond just hashtags to the post stream

re: bsky, feed algos on fedi

Could build something like this against the streaming federated websocket on a mastodon instance's API.

That stream of posts would be authenticated per-user and have all the expected visibility & permission filters already applied - i.e. the filters wouldn't see anything that the user themselves wouldn't be able to see if they just stared at the federated feed all day.

Downside would be finding a convenient way to let users run their own proxy and yet share pluggable filters, whether that's self-hosted or on some semi-trusted shared host

re: bsky, feed algos on fedi

@wraithan Yeah, that's a tricky thing, how to make something that's really best done as an always-on cloud server and maybe make it easy to use for non-sysadmins, without building yet another data-concentrating silo out of a shared host.

threads, an instagram app

Threads, an Instagram app, which is a Meta brand, which used to be called Facebook.

I wonder if Worf, Son of Mogh, House of Martok, Son of Sergey, House of Rozhenko, Bane to the Duras Family, Slayer of Gowron will try installing the app?

So i was curious and peeked at the App Store listing for Threads, an Instagram App and holy crap they want a lot of data. I looked at Firefox, a whole-ass web browser, and whew that’s a difference
