@tim_lavoie Yeah, I think they rely on social engineering for that part

@robdaemon @retroist This reminds me of the first time I got so excited and used my allowance to buy a tin of General Foods International Coffee as a kid. I thought it was kind of disgusting.
@robdaemon @retroist Yeah, I think I thought it was going to be like hot chocolate, but it was somehow too sweet and too bitter all at the same time 🤮
@mhoye Scans to me like "Black Flag sticker on a Cadillac"
@c0debabe @checkervest thank goodness it's washable
@mos_8502 Best strategy in this scenario is to channel Tim Curry
@mos_8502 (tried finding a gif of that but failed :sadcowblob:)
I just typo'd "seindelf" and now suddenly want to see an entirely elf-based sitcom about nothing condense out of the noosphere
@hacks4pancakes holy crap, that is ridiculously nice
So, this feather toy on which Cosmo is currently fixated has a metal wand. He dragged it up the stairs before dropping it on my foot like this. It sounded like a load of rebar falling off a truck, the whole way #cats
As it was coming up the stairs I was like "holy crap, is half the house coming apart?" and then "oh, I see"
@Macross Well (knocks on wood), a full backup to an external drive seems to have succeeded. So, I unmounted that and moved it far away from the server.
The failed drive 2 is on its way via UPS back to Seagate for an RMA replacement.
Meanwhile the RAID rebuild with a "good" drive 2 replacement is proceeding apace. But, time estimate is high on oven cleaner, apparently (it said 12 days, earlier today)
Crossing fingers that the RAID rebuild completes before Drive 1 decides to kick it, which should be just in time for the RMA replacement to arrive 🙃
@Macross tl;dr: circus music plays while I spin rusty plates 😅
@endomain Looking for a job? You could seek to bring the system down from within 😅
@lordbowlich @endomain Well, to be fair, browser development is expensive and mostly users don't pay for it directly.
Mozilla's a half-billion dollar corp butting up against multi-billion dollar corps. They do have other revenue efforts that have been chipping away at the problem, but it's tricky
@lordbowlich @endomain I'd also say that, as ad-tech goes, they were trying interesting stuff when I last checked in.
Client-side logic selects from a set of server-offered ads, without sending all the user info off to a data warehouse for surveillance & analysis.
But, I think they'd drop all that if other sources of income kicked in more.
