tl;dw: it was a hippies on the beach thing, but then there were too many hippies so they fucked off to the desert. then the hippies were joined by many tech friends, then too many tech friends. now it's just too many friends altogether who probably shouldn't be in the desert
I've never been to Burning Man, because I figured I had no personal business being out on the playa as a potential health emergency. That's what I figured worked as self-sufficiency for me. I did admire the moxie and the fuckery from afar.
So, I was sad to see news of a different kind of silly valley fuckery emerge, last decade or so. Seems like it's just kind of proceeded from there.
