I have the day off. I have some how ADHDβd myself into installing Ubuntu on a couple of old Apple laptops
@0xSH00T Hah, I really should have taken a screenshot when I groused about this https://hackers.town/@lmorchard/111251629748478523
Would you believe I was trying to rip a CD, and these are the last two computers in the house with optical drives?
@jrconlin Yeah, I'd probably be better off just acquiring a USB optical drive π€
Hmm π€ Didn't Etsy used to have friends lists? Could have sworn that's how I found my wife's favorite stuff on there, last year during the holidays
@fuzzychef Progress!
Also noticed that Amazon has made it very difficult to submit wishlist items from non-Amazon stores. We used to heavily rely on that for holiday & birthday gifts, both shopping local and from Amazon. Ugh.
@fuzzychef heh, oops, hoist by own petard I guess
@adeese Ooh, I figured somebody had to have some sort of generic wishlist service out there
@adeese I find myself on the edge of this very rabbit hole π
@adeese Ah, only downside is it doesn't look like they have a browser extension for Firefox :sadcowblob:β
@dcm I already touched all my grass, we don't have a lot of it
@thegibson @randomgeek Aw man, if you were here I'd toss you two of em
On the up side: I got this 2006-era MacBook running Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS and the wifi finally works.
On the down side: The battery no longer holds a charge at all and I think the optical drive died after ripping 2 CDs
On the up side (again): I only had 2 CDs to rip
Now I'm fighting the urge to buy a new battery and superdrive to repair this laptop which had been hanging out in a box for the last 5 years.
Also, did you know there was a 1997 tribute album to Gary Numan with 26 covers by a bunch of very 90s bands? It's pretty neat. Also now ripped to my NAS in FLAC.
@robdaemon felt a lil goofy buying an old CD in 2023 but itβs neato
@robdaemon Weirdly, I do have a thing for vinyl in recent years, but haven't played a CD or a cassette in ages
