So I'm messing around with rearranging my workbench and cobbling together some computer bits for streaming and whatnot.
I have a laptop, a thunderbolt dock, and a wifi access point on a shelf above the bench.
As far as I can tell, if the wifi AP is close to the thunderbolt dock, the laptop goes into hibernation. If the wifi AP is a few feet away, the laptop does not go into hibernation.
That's... weird? I must be missing something obvious, like a button is getting leaned on or something?
@alpenglow Aww, this makes me miss Weird Stuff that used be in Sunnyvale, CA
Heard megaphone chanting out my window. Turns out it's striking teachers in #pdx marching past. I gave a thumbs up & waved, for whatever good that does.
Among other things, they're asking for mold and rodent free classrooms. You know, unreasonable demands. I hope they get everything.

iOS annoyance no. 4321: Some apps keep some settings in a menu in the app. Other apps have settings all piled into this laundry list in the separate Settings app.
Really wish they'd all just live in their respective apps. I can see what Apple tried to do by attempting to corral all the settings in one place, but it's a weird inconsistent mess.
@thoughtpunks "Shattle"!
@Genderqueerwolf That scarf is just chef-kiss
Hold music that fades out or stops abruptly before switching tracks: get thee behind me
(also I don't really understand that phrase "get thee behind me" - I know it comes from Jesus in the bible, but why would I want my back to Satan? seems hard to keep track of him there)
Kate Bush was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and just sent a statement in lieu of showing up for the ceremony. And, really, I love that for her. I hope she's just happy at home getting stoned out of her gourd.
@tschak It's not retro hardware, but I got a mastodon bot what does that :)
@astatide IIRC, you can even throw one asshole into another asshole, which was super satisfying
@astatide Also, don't want to spoil anything if you aren't this far in Control, but highly recommend getting through the Ashtray Maze if you haven't already
@SnoopJ I loved Control, but I've started and bounced off Alan Wake like 4 times now.
Most I remember is he drives a Lincoln MKT with Microsoft Sync β’οΈ and eventually has a flashlight with supernatural powers which absolutely chows through Energizer-branded batteries. And Verizon is in there. @astatide
@astatide @SnoopJ I think I've read there's a Remastered version with the product placements scrubbed, but I haven't been bothered to find it.
I'm also reticent to dip into Alan Wake 2, even though I've heard there are extensive tie-ins to Control. But I recall Alan Wake had a distinct lack of Throwing Desks at Assholes and the titular dude was kind of hapless. I might not have given it much of a chance.
I couldn't remember the word "sunny" so I just said "wow it's really shiny out"
@mjg59 Yeah, I mean that's exactly how MS made Windows viable for me for a bunch of years when I got tired of Apple hardware. WSL worked even better than MacOS for a bit since it was Linux and not a BSD variant that weirdly mismatched with my target environments
