@mdhughes @48kRAM I feel like virtualenv and then Python 3 were kind of inflection points around this stuff

Betrayed the cats today by applying flea meds. They're all squinting and avoiding me at all cost.

Also hoist by my own petard when I squashed one of the applicator tubes a lil too hard and somehow splashed some of it in my eye. Never done that before 😿

Happy anniversary to my last post on Twitter!

Haven't quite been able to get around to deleting the account, but it's been 17 years and I felt a bit conflicted. Kinda miss the old place, but the past year of fuckery certainly hasn't drawn me back.

Funny seeing the almost weekly "is it finally time to leave" posts from various folks. It's like watching a frog boil itself in a mall food court.

Anyway, I'm hoping for good things on the fediverse, and also hoping folks don't all pile into one semi-abandoned warehouse / shopping mall again for all their Discourse.

@wohali Yeah, I'm on bsky for curiosity's sake? But I never post much there, so I guess I'm not on-on there. It's got a neat crowd of people, but it feels like the Dread Pirate Roberts of social networks to me

@mwl Yeah, pretty much the same for me, I'm kinda squatting my own handle

@wohali Oh, heh 😅 It's a Princess Bride reference. Roberts was a pirate who kept telling his first mate "Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning" for years & years - which is kind how their federation protocol stuff sounds to me

@wohali You've probably been better off and using your memory cells for better things

@mwl @craigmaloney I mean, there was a time when Twitter seemed like it might have some staying power... :lolsob:

That thing where over the weekend I hauled two clothes dressers into the attic, emptied my closet, installed a shelving system, re-filled my closet, totally rearranged my office, then undid the rearrangement - and this morning I'm trying to tell myself all the aches & pains are not most likely me coming down with something.

mh meh; covid fears

I will say one of the annoying bits of lasting mental damage from the past few years of pandemic fun is that I'm hypervigilant about any little hint of illness. I didn't really used to be.

I've gotten one (1) sinus infection since 2020, and otherwise I've been generally gratefully healthier than in years' past. I'm vaxxed out the wazoo, barely leave my house, and usually mask up when I do.

But, heaven forfend my brain might reasonably evaluate my circumstances. It takes persistent mindful intervention to remind myself that I'm probably not getting sick - and it's probably okay if I do. (Your mileage may vary, of course.)

Still occasionally imagining an alternate timeline where Paul McCartney's "Temporary Secretary" was his major pivot into a post-punk new wave career where he formed a supergroup with Gary Numan, Brian Eno, and David Byrne

@emma Yeah, I was kind of oscillating between Byrne and Gabriel when I tooted that :)

@squeevening Rafter hangers, maybe?

You know what I kinda want? An end to "prestige TV" in scifi & fantasy and a return to lower-budget, lower-stakes, 26 episode seasons - complete with all the old tropes of filler episodes, bottle episodes, and the occasional 2 or 3 part arc.

Like, maybe have a half-dozen episodes that don't push the overall season arc forward, just do a day-in-the-life-of story or do a weird musical thing or tell a story from the perspective of an inanimate object. Sprawl out, get weird

@darius I should get back into anime, it's been a long while

@simon Ohh, I've seen iZombie, Lucifer, and Person of Interest - but I haven't gotten around to watching Deception or Prodigal Son yet... I should get on those

@registrert Oof, yeah, I just realized the other day that Game of Thrones had been on for almost 10 years - albeit in little spurts - and then they just slapped Flex Tape over the ending and called it a day

@Wrewdison That was so friggin delightful, I wish the season was longer :sadcowblob:

@futurebird I've heard you get much warmer data output this way

@astatide I want cheddar cheese that'll fight me

@kestral synchronize swatches

@annika I want to say we blocked or limited mastodon.social here late last November and then unblocked. Looked like the process was trying to unblock individual users and crashed partway through. IIRC, we kinda gave up and now it's a de facto whitelist as we occasionally manually unblock a user. (I could have this wrong, my memory is fuzzy)

Jeff Bezos talking about how the human race needs to build up to a population over 1 trillion to produce 1000 Mozarts and 1000 Einsteins.

That reminds me of when I'm playing a strategy game and I keep forgetting to build more basic resource generation and housing units, and skipping civilization tech tree upgrades, while trying to rev up a Zerg rush or suchlike.

@calcifer @maddiefuzz And if naquadah doesn't do it for ya, invent naquadria

@calcifer @maddiefuzz I think this might be the most niche meme I've ever attempted

Found the models to print a case for my MiSTer. But, apparently my particular assemblage of parts differs slightly from what folks seem to usually have - mainly, I have a "low profile USB hub" in the stack that seems like a weirdo.

So now I'm scratching my head at a) re-soldering a part to fit or b) learning how to shave down all the models by 10-15mm in Fusion 360

Option b) is probably better? but I feel oddly more familiar with option a)?

Probably should make myself go with the model-editing option, so as to make myself learn some more about Fusion 360 and modelling in general
