Woke up again with a craving for a chicken shawarma wrap with garlic & pickles and a pot of Turkish coffee from a specific little cafe in Birmingham, Michigan that's been closed for about 20 years.

I think it's because this is about the time of year I was working extra hours at an office nearby and literally slept under my desk a few times for it.

Brains are weird.

Also, still looking for a middle eastern place in PDX that we like. Living close to Dearborn, MI just absolutely spoiled us.

Like, counters run out of random gas stations in the Metro Detroit area would be some of the absolute best purveyors of bread & shawarma & toum & hummus & falafel & everything. Got used to being able to pick one at random and the meal would be perfect

Also, to be fair to PDX, back when we lived in the Bay Area we only found one middle eastern place in a Sunnyvale strip mall that we liked after a year or two of trying different spots.

So, it is also very probable that we're locked in on a specific samefood recipe that happened to be local when we were in Michigan

@cinja I want to say Mama Khouri's over on N Williams was pretty good to us. Also had Nicholas Restaurant on NE Broadway recently, and they were pretty tasty too. Have tried a few food carts here & there, but I've had a lot of dry chicken with all the wrong spices (for me anyway). Going to have to try TokTok though!

@hellsop Oh yeah, I feel like if it used to be a taco bell or a pizza hut, whatever took over ends up being legit. Had some of the best mom & pop food from that kinda place :)

@aendra They're just working to make sure the data is very, very portable, I guess?

Kiddie porn? In my training data set? The answer won't surprise you.

@astatide It's like they forgot they were supposed to be externalizing risk, not snarfing it down like pez

re: hot take

@JoYo "why do we do it this way?" "because we do it this way" :blobangry:

Me at 2:30pm: Okay, I think I'll go for an afternoon walk after I get this task done

The world at 3:30pm: (is dark)

Me at 3:35pm: Alright, done. Let's bundle up for that evening walk.
