Got some new bits for my toy CNC machine and these colors are really neat? No idea if the coating is legitimately useful, but they’re certainly pretty

@beka_valentine I have some vague newbie notion that this should be the case - but also the set was like US$5 so they could be coated in easter egg dye for all I know πŸ˜…

@rozina This is one of the qualifications for a promotion to Staff Engineer, congrats

@polpo I feel like if you recorded video of this and shared it, I'd be split on whether it's a chill thing to leave playing in the background or if it would recall past trauma

@sam I mean a) "mastodon users" aren't a monolith and b) there've been plenty of folks who've thought of ActivityPub as more of a toolkit to build their own gardens between friends rather than yet another gaping hell-pit of all-against-all

@sam I mean, enjoy your hellpit I guess?

@mhoye frankly I'm surprised more video games don't hunger for blood

@mavica_again nature is beautiful

Back to peak ADHD weeknights: A video game running on my PC, paused. A YouTube video on the living room TV, playing. TikTok on my phone on my knee, playing. A cat laying on my other leg. A bowl of cereal I got myself about an hour ago, remembered just now.

re: Food

@ArtifexUmbra All we had was like some generic raisin bran granola from a baking recipe last month, but it was alright.

Fruity pebbles would probably have me sprinting around the block

Ah, welp, there's the wind & snow & freezing rain in northeast portland

That thing where I try to play a live streamed event at 2x speed out of habit

@natevw Yeah, alas, I joined at the beginning of the event 😞

@ImpossibleUmbrella @cinebox I would be curious to try this with a more obscure phrase, since I'd guess this exact ROT13 text has appeared somewhere in the training corpus

@selzero Counter with some chaos magic, put a hot dog on the glyph and drizzle with mustard. Be sure to flip it off and keep your intention clear

re: Food

@skinnylatte Oh, that sounds tasty!

@cinebox 2016 was last year shut up

@toolbear One of the things I really liked in Calckey / Firefish / whatever it is now is that it did emoji reacts - so favorite with a little extra spin.

I also want to get back to screwing around with a personal client that connects to a Mastodon instance's web socket firehose and applies pluggable personal algorithms

@SnoopJ @mwichary Oh that is such a neat looking book package!

@BrianJopek One of my best "life hack" habits has been using the last of my daily consciousness to set up the drip coffee maker just before I go to bed.

(like, I know folks have been doing this for forever, but I have to make it sound clever to myself to feel excited to do it)

Random thought while microwaving my lunch: The tech industry really is building an AI God.

But not, like, a divine being capable of miracles.

No, it's a vaguely anthropomorphized, omni-capable, imaginary entity toward which reverence, tithing, and blameless regard are encouraged - or at least not strongly discouraged. Do not attempt to describe its ineffable operational parameters. Pay no attention to the dorks behind the curtain.

Which is especially confounding to me, because there are operational parameters to LLMs and they can do somewhat useful things and that is valuable to understand with precision. Also handy to know the limits of their practical value versus the costs to reach that value.

@thomasfuchs @danhon Yeah, I see that kind of thing happening and it looks all "haha not serious-- unless...?" Makes me yearn for a Butlerian Jihad

@danhon @thomasfuchs We're gonna have some wild "like and subscribe" rituals in the post-collapse AI churches

Reading about XPath-based web page scraping in FreshRSS takes me way back danq.me/2022/09/27/freshrss-xp

Like, once upon a time over 20 years ago, before most sites had feeds, I was building XPath + XSL scrapers that spat out RSS. Still have a few relics of that age lying around in github repos

github.com/lmorchard/feedmagic

I used to have a couple dozen XPath + XSL based scrapers running into my feed reader. But, I can't find most of them now, and I doubt a majority of the sites I was scraping even exist anymore πŸ€”

None of which is to say I was the only person doing that, just that it's weird it might be necessary again

Started riding an exercise bike for 30 min each morning, this week. Thought I might try adding that manually to Apple's Health app. Turns out that was a mistaken thought.

@zkat @craigmaloney I'm sad that I have misplaced my 3D glasses so that I can only see this in 1.5D
