@requiem ah yeah, some octoprint + CNC shenanigans are indeed on my to-research list 🤔

At it again with CNC baby steps. Managed to carve "Lurk Laugh Loathe" without either breaking a tool or completely gouging the plywood

@signal9 Yup! got it over the holidays, baby's first toy CNC

@signal9 I'm definitely eyeing up the diode lasers they make for this thing. Worried they might be too under-powered, but maybe not? I miss having access to a nice big CO2 laser cutter

A thing I think I'd like to skill up into doing is carving bullshit into nicer pieces of wood and do some colorful resin inlays

@signal9 Really, I think that sounds within the range of the laser modules I've seen available for the thing. Might just take some time & multiple passes.

I know they won't work on acrylic sheets, which is kind of a bummer. I was tinkering with making keyboard switch plates like that, a few years ago

@jpf heh, skull comes next, I need to find some inviting line art

Have any friendos around these parts used a cheap mini PC as a Twitch / YouTube streaming rig?

Been using an older laptop, but wondering if I could get some decent video encoding and browser based graphics out of something like this Beelink S12

amazon.com/Beelink-Desktop-Com

@tankgrrl Hmm, might be superstition, but I see some Dell & Lenovo tiny PCs in a similar price range and the more recognizable brand attracts me :thonking:

@bitprophet I'm in this toot and-- squirrel

Also a concern for leaving any computing hardware out in my shed / shop: It's a fully uninsulated space that's mostly protected from the elements, but it does get some extremes of cold & hot and will get rather humid inside if it's foggy outside.

@jalefkowit those are some quality brainworms right there.

I love chippin' into cyberspace, where programmable light bulbs and toothbrushes can be converted into zombie armies

Again, as a computer scientist, I believe computers should be in fewer things

@malin I'm just gonna clean my teeth with a twig from the yard

@aud Heh, "man, I feel like I got a fever. why's my CPU usage so high?"

@squeevening Haha yup, but there's always a new thing where a computer didn't make it better

bluesky

so uh hey, anybody still need a bsky invite?

@mttaggart I mean... never underestimate the bandwidth of 3 million smart toothbrushes hurtling down the information superhighway

@nomad the passage of time is a completely baffling phenomenon

This oven, man. I wish I could talk to the team behind these software updates and forced wall paper changes and help them find other jobs.

Here's my recipe for bacon in the oven, FWIW: Get a sheet pan. Line with parchment paper. Put bacon on the paper. Set oven to 450F. Put pan in oven. Do something else for 15 minutes. Take pan out of oven and receive bacon.

Main reason this oven's still on wifi is that I'm under the impression the warranty and repair service requires us to keep it open for software updates.

But, the warranty's about to run out, so I might just yank that wifi connection soon.

@nomad I should really be using racks 🤔 The parchment paper does a pretty decent job of decanting the fat too, though. Kinda forms a nice funnel if I'm careful nudging it around

@mavica_again But of course there's software updates to the software updater!

@jpf Oh, that's a handy collection to have!

It is the future and i can have new fidget spinners whenever i want
