Attempting to print a case for my using this cookiecad funfetti PLA. About half done, hoping it works out well because itโ€™s looking pretty rad already

Okay, so that was only the bottom half of the case. Came off the print bed no sweat. The backplane fits perfectly, looking good so far.

I didn't design the case, but it comes along with individual cases for the system modules. Going to try to print a few of those, too, and hope it all looks neato with the semi-translucent funfetti and doesn't hide the pride rainbow colors of the PCBs overmuch.

If this turns out nice, I might have to scheme how to add blinkenlights to show off the data & address lines as RGB gamer bling

@Mossop I think so! Looked at first like it would be holes for nuts and bolts, but I think the bolts are meant to just thread right in

Overnight, I printed the top half of the case, covers for unused slots, and a case for the CPU module.

Turned out pretty nice! The module case has kind of a sloped slot in the bottom that guides the pins into the backplane header and gives a nice grip on the PCB.

I'm thinking these module cases are crying for some low illumination inside, maybe a warm white LED or two from below

Also funny, because I'm doing all this for a computer I don't quite know how to use yet because I totally forgot how to get around in CP/M :blob_grinning_sweat:

@jbaggs Yeah, the module case kinda rests against the bottom of the backplane PCB and also along the case like a rail. Feels very solid and like additional cases will stack up against each other for more support

Also thinking I'm going to have motivation to learn some more Fusion 360 witchcraft to remix this case to accommodate modules with interface ports like the dual serial, CF card, and the Pico VGA terminal that I plan to build real soon

Managed to stream some tinkering yesterday, wherein I did some soldering butchery and somehow managed to bungle my way into successfully updating firmware on an ESP8266

Annoyingly, I got the wifi card working just after I ended the stream, by unchecking an RX pull up setting in the firmware!

Rather pleased with how the old streaming laptop did yesterday, after dealing with stuttering performance issues last summer. It's been totally reformatted and reinstalled since then, and I'm using different cameras and a different thunderbolt dock. So, maybe somewhere in all of that, I did something right?

I also threatened all the equipment at some point by brandishing a small 3lb sledge hammer at it. So, that could have convinced the angry pixies to change their ways too.

@Mossop It can be... sometimes? and for certain thread pitches? Also depends on the orientation of the printing and layer height resolution.

(I seem to be able to get my Prusa MK4 down to 0.15mm and sometimes 0.1mm resolution on vertical layers, depending on the filament)

I just left my desk to get a snack, came back to my desk and set the snack down. Then, I left my desk and got a snack. It was the same kind of snack that was already lying on my desk.

@glitzersachen Yeah, my Matrix experience is SO glitchy. I keep trying to find an Agent to complain to, but I think they're avoiding me

@slothrop Haha, I think I last did that in about 2004

I just gave my Mac the furrowest of brows. Not mad, just disappointed

Also, mildly perturbed that I can't take a single little project photo without there being at least one strand of cat fur visible. Don't think that can ever be avoided

@cinebox That's what I thought!

Love this song "Mercury in Retrograde" by The Reverse Engineers. It's kind of like Rush / Styx musical fanfic and gets stuck in my head whenever my tech glitches.

@nomad :blobthinking: it absolutely should!

Hmm, also printed a few more of these module cases and discovered they only really work for enhanced bus modules and not single row standard bus modules. Also the capacitors on the ESP8266 wifi module stick out a bit too far for the snap-on lid, as-is. More project ideas, I guess!

Got a couple more of these cases to be useful via some literal hacking with a swiss army knife and a deburring tool, hopefully in advance of more proper remodeling later. Letโ€™s call it prototyping

Also, the photos are all focused on the wrong bits and I just noticed one of the slot covers printed with a lil burnt splotch. But, it's all in the name of science
