Attending a streaming company all-hands from an exercise bike by joining 15 min late, watching at 2x speed, catching up to real time, bailing to tiktok for 15 min at 2x speed, before rejoining the company stream at 2x speed, repeat

@mathowie I'm kind of burnt out on elimination-style shows in general. Like, we still watch RuPaul's Drag Race, but our favorite was season 7 of All Stars where they didn't do eliminations at all and everyone was in play for the whole run

That thing where you announce a project in the company slack and point folks to a channel devoted to the project, but the reply thread to the message announcing the project becomes the channel devoted to the project.

It bothers me in a way that I know is best explained by my own neurospiciness. And yeah, yeah, it's another channel to join. But man it's a drag scrolling through a random running heap of suggestions, complaints, and miscellaneous kibitzing all crammed into slack's reply sidebar

@wnd Oh yeah, no, it was funny! :)

I've seen this happen on a bunch of projects now, and it smells almost just like email reply-all threadnoughts

It it just me (who am too lazy to read through changelogs) or was there recently a change in the Obsidian markdown editor where when you try to select checklist items, the selection automatically jumps over the - [ ] bit in each line?

Kind of annoying when I want to select 3 items to move and it just helpfully includes the checkbox of the 4th item and I have to remember to cursor back over to deselect that.

Another day, another session at work with an LLM chatbot where I am absolutely roleplaying as Paul Rudd on Tim & Eric

@caitmuenster now THAT's a tane I can get into!

@Edent I can fuzzily imagine some Apache mod_rewrite rules that could probably do it? Maybe something lua-y in Nginx?

Oh, but you said WITHOUT monkeying around with .htaccess. In that case... :blobshrug:

@JoYo Just watched a weird little recipe / documentary video about Chef Boiardi! youtube.com/watch?v=xaCuMfY59u

While fixing lunch for myself, my brain wandered into trying to formulate a less problematic yet still pithy way to say "gas, ass, or grass" with respect to running online communities

@randomgeek Ah, that works a lot better!

@mconley @Mossop status 301, go over there

neighbors just got a Dumpster delivered curbside. that's when you know Shit's Going Down. trying not to be nosey

@c0debabe Yeah, I feel like that's when the cat dad in me comes out more dad-like and I'm like what kinda tools are you using over there :eyethink:

@Anneheathen :oof: hope it turns out best as it can!

grousing about git

Ran into some threads today grousing about the complexity of git and, separately, how Facebook uses Mercurial.

This is not bragging or whatever but: git somehow makes sense to me? It's been years since I last lost work or didn't have at least some sense of how to do the needful to untangle a mess. I've never had that sense with Mercurial

I've even done some weird inadvisable stuff like grafting one repo onto another at a subdirectory while retaining history and re-signing all the altered commits with my GPG key.

Sure, I have to re-google how to do some of the whackier stuff all the time. But, somehow, my brain contains a mental model of how it all works which somehow corresponds expected results?

Again, not bragging. If anything I'm perplexed at how I got here and - if I'm being honest - am slightly worried that it's the result of closed head trauma from all the head-desking

grousing about git

Like sometimes, I'll help a teammate out with something git-related and be like "oh yeah you just have to find your previous commit in the reflog while being careful not to do a hard reset, then stash your stuff before you do a rebase. and if that doesn't work then yeah that's time for a hard reset and maybe a cherrypick" and afterward I'm like what have I done with my life

grousing about git

again, this is not a place of honor, no highly esteemed invocation of /opt/homebrew/bin/git is celebrated here

I feel like I need more ways to describe the notion of "I feel like I have competency in this thing and am far more disturbed by than proud of that."

β€œThis is a unix system! I loathe that I know this!”

ohhh, I think the neighbors might be murdering their lawn, they're digging up all the sod. They seem the types to do the all-native-plants thing, so I'm kind of excited to see what they end up with. Also not succeeding at not being nosey I guess

grousing about git

@jrconlin Honestly yours is a better life for it, I wish I had that room freed up for anything else like even just trivia about birds

@Ventronik What'd you use before? I've been partial to Pocket Casts for years pocketcasts.com/

@Ventronik Well, it's been around since... whew... 2010? It's been very reliable, has cloud syncing that's followed me across several phones, along with a web-based player. Their search seems to work well, while also dealing well with RSS URLs pasted in

Also seems to mesh well with my habit of subscribing to a zillion podcasts but wanting an auto-populated "up next" playlist of just a handful of regular daily listens. (e.g. I listen to NPR's hourly news podcast, but only keep the latest hour in the playlist at any particular time, and the settings accommodate that)

@Ventronik Yeah, you can do things like auto-archive episodes by age or count of backlogged episodes, add to top or bottom of "up next" playlist, auto-download as they appear in the feed but only on wifi. Also has a lot of options for listening speed and silence removal, if you're into that kind of thing
