dumb hashicorp joke

so how long til ibm sells terraform to lenovo?

(is this funny?)

Also, I'm playing around a bit with sqlalchemy in python and trying to decide whether to get over my general disdain for ORMs long enough to refresh myself on it

My usual thing is that I know a programming language and I know SQL - but I tend to get grouchy when I need to learn some special snowflake SQL-in-programming-language abstraction.

More often than not, I just want to drop back to SQL and - at best - map some rows into objects. Maybe, infrequently, I want to do something funky with a query builder.

And then, whenever there's something funky on the SQL side of things - say postgresql JSON functions or an extension or something - then the special ORM package gets inconvenient really fast and has no idea what to do with things

@rafial Yeah, that sounds pretty much like my ideal setup

@giflian I feel like one of my "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" rants would include "1000 line ORM-generated SQL queries doing table scans off the shoulder of Orion"

@giflian "strips out the entire WHERE clause and selects the whole table"

I literally oofed out loud :oof:

@audiodude Yeah, I feel like one of these days it's going to click and it'll feel handy 🤔

@annika why's your camera all staticky?

@annika Also there's a part of me who wants to get a few of these and just casually leave them around town
