@cederbs I've also seen fire lookout jobs in mountaintop stations out of contact with people for months and, like, (sigh)

@lordbowlich @cederbs Now I kind of want to write some fanfic in Iain M. Banks' Culture post-scarcity universe about a lighthouse keeper and a fire watch doing their jobs just because they want to
Reading this thread, thinking about super cheap EVs. Suddenly imagining a city that had little 2-person EVs for curb-side rent like mine does now for e-bikes. Like, just enough of a vehicle to have a weatherproof cabin and a trunk for groceries. I'd love it.
@psychotimmy Yeah, heck, I want a "car" I could pick up and straighten out in a parking spot by hand if I needed to
@elithebearded Oof, yeah one of those quads seems like near perfect to me! Though side windows would be nice versus rainy PDX days 🌧️
Just remembered it's almost #eurovision time!
Oh hey, I found someone that posted a knock off of this transforming robot watch for free on Printables. I'm gonna print one.
Could make a decent desk toy / clock thing. I wonder how smart I could make it with something ESP32 flavored?
@giflian The model-maker on printables mentioned trying it at different sizes, so I might see how tiny I can make it. Of course, too tiny and it can't fit any smarts, but it might be a fun toy anyway
@giflian (of course, I really want a pipboy bracer that occupies my entire forearm, so 🤷♂️ )
Hmm, well, I printed this model at 50% size with super-cheap PLA just to see what would happen. Not awful but seems like a pain to assemble. Probably need to futz with parts orientation and support material, use finer tweezers to clean up the print.
Gonna try a 100% size print, which makes it more of a palm-sized desk clock than a wrist watch.
As I do many mornings, today I woke up with a random urgent thought. I just remembered that today's was this:
In the attic, I have a movie poster for The Transformers (1986) that my Dad stole from the theater when I was a kid. He told me you can tell it's a real poster because it's printed in reverse on the back of the poster - and it is.
I should frame that and hang it up in my office.
@benbrown for $5?
