"bring your whole self to work!"

...

"wait, how much self is that? there's more? whoa whoa whoa how do you still have more self piling in through the front doors? what do you mean 'i contain multitudes'?!"

(the commercial enterprise drowns in selves)

Thereโ€™s a band I want to see.
Tickets are $200.
I donโ€™t want to see that band anymore.

@rhosyn yeah, there are a very few bands Iโ€™d pay $200 to see. This isnโ€™t one of them

@dominik Exactly, when I think of comparable things for $200, whew yikes

@benbrown Nice! Hoping to post another 2-3 in that series, at least. All variations on the theme. Maybe have more after that, diving into different areas.

Kind of cynically fulfills a work goal but also trying to wrap my head around non-hype-y practical hacking insofar as it's possible

eurovision; bambie thug; gaza

Oh dang.

And there was some unexpected controversy around the performance, with Eurovision bosses stepping in to request a change to Bambie's facepaint after finding out that the markings on their face were actually a message in the ancient Ogham alphabet, spelling out a message of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

@benbrown Haha, yeah, that's the general theme I'm getting from this tech "generally better than previous solutions in some particular areas" ๐Ÿ˜…

Like, not entirely hype, but also probably going to settle in as a lingering incremental improvement when the bubble bursts

@benbrown Some of the stuff I want to get into after a couple more topic clustering posts is model fine-tuning and semi-automated evaluation.

I think that's where the real clever stuff ends up, since yeah you can start from pre-trained foundation models and improve DIY from there

I'm in a meeting where COPPA keeps getting mentioned.

My mind has wandered off to daydreaming about an online metaverse service called COPPA Cabana and it's not good

(and also yes, I have the Barry Manilow song stuck in my head too)

@jalefkowit Once upon a time, this was how Firefox add-ons worked too. They were essentially just modules crammed into the browser with full access to, like, everything.

Around v57, the much more limited WebExtensions API was introduced and broke the entire add-ons world because there wasn't really a better way to change that situation

selfie; work meetings

Spent my morning in Zoom meetings like this.

Realized after the first break that someone in the meeting had a "best dad ever" trophy in their background. I kind of hope it didn't look like I was trolling them.

Yet also it'd be funny if I were, but I don't have that level of wherewithal and cleverness

(i am not a serious person)

re: selfie; work meetings

@c0debabe I am absolutely overjoyed! Not at all questioning what I'm doing with my life

selfie; work meetings

@giflian i actually splurged a little to customize it for our oranges

re: selfie; work meetings

@giflian Kind of started as coincidence that turned into convention ๐Ÿ˜…

@BrideOfLinux Been kind of thinking in recent years that spinning HDs are the new tapes

A 3 hour meeting has ended. Now is the time on Sprockets when I make weird groaning stimming noises to myself

@jrconlin Not yet, those are subtly different noises. These are just for their own sake

@mos_8502 Once, as a fresh youth, I sat in on an ESR admiration sit-in (with ESR present). It was... eye opening
