Woke up with a Jesus Jones song stuck in my head this morning, so I listened to 3 albums straight through while getting ready & eating breakfast.

Like feeding samefood to a toddler - this is what you want to eat and it's not poison? then we're gonna fill your gullet with it

Also the album "Perverse" from Jesus Jones is one of my all time favorites. Seems incredible (and maybe not credible?), but it was claimed that in 1992 it was one of the first albums ever entirely recorded via computer (onto floppy disks).

And rather than crediting the band members with instruments - e.g. guitar, bass, drums - they credited them with frequency ranges - e.g. 300 Hz to 8 kHz, 20 Hz to 4 kHz. I thought that was super neato at the time

@mathowie Well, you see, you need purity to make it easier to decide who's in and who's out

@greg and docker hates you! โค๏ธ

Also I love that the page title for their website is "Jesus Jones - No, we didn't split up. Come and find out what we are up to"

I see Twitch is rolling out an official DJ program enabling folks to "legally livestream millions of tracks representing the vast majority of popular music"

Since I typically watch DJs who do things like stream anything but the vast majority of popular music - and in fact often from literal physical vinyl - I'm expecting most of DJs that I like to get squeezed out

twitch.tv/dj-signup

Like, I know copyright's a thing and it's basically been a fluke that the eye of music industry Sauron hasn't swung to glare on livestream DJs much until now, but I'm expecting the end of a happy era

For me, it was mostly a COVID shutdown era thing - being isolated at home even more than my usual hermitage (which is hard to distinguish, to be fair) but all these club DJs started popping up on Twitch since their usual venues were shuttered. Totally an ask-forgiveness-later kind of thing. It was a neat thing in a time of great fuckery

Think I just missed a semi-important phone call because my phone's set not to ring for unexpected numbers and there doesn't seem to be a way to return the call and they didn't leave voicemail. :sadness: But, like, 99% of my incoming calls are garbage, so... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

But also, a part of me is like: Who uses the phone for anything important, these days? Probably folks & orgs I'm best off avoiding as much as possible

Like, a thing in my pocket that anyone in the world can notionally make jangle and buzz for my attention just by dialing up a public number with which I've been associated since sometime around 1998? Abused with at least a dozen spam calls per day.

re: USPOL, mastodon

@thegibson I feel like Truth Social is just Trump wanting a blog except with a really really big emphasis on the comment section

Dang it, now I'm just mad at The Telephone again (and disappointed in my telephonic ineptitude).

@rasterweb I think I've done that before? Just be sure to get lots of rest and hydration afterward, because the cognitive impedance mismatches can sneak up on you

This has made it to 12 years old. I think itโ€™s done evolving now?

So from here itโ€™s mainly watching number go up until I make too many mistakes in attending to feeding, playing, cleaning, and lights-off at night. Weโ€™ll see how long that meshes with my ADHD ๐Ÿ˜…

@benbrown Yeah, and I feel like the "phone number" is an artifact of a maybe simpler time when it was less acceptable and profitable to say "screw it, we'll call every number extant with a robot and rake in a non-zero percentage of revenue from it"

@paulmison Now my brain has moved from Jesus Jones to The Young Gods, thanks to that!

Just got this captcha and the ancient Monty Python fan in me is vibrating

I mean, seriously: This little bugger looks like a menace

Meanwhile, this tiger looks like they'd chuff and roll over for a belly rub (I may have seen too many tiktoks from big cat rescues)

me: "why am I getting inexplicably cranky?"

(checks weather - it's 95F/35C outside and 105F/40C in my office)

me: "oh."

Work sent me a new Jabra headset that comes with a little desktop control widget. Pleasant to find the volume knob controls general computer volume, but disappointed to find none of the buttons work as play / pause for music.

Also just learned about the conference practically in my backyard! can't make it this time round but should totally try to attend if it comes back next year

@kevinspencer Yeah, the room in the house I picked for my office turns out to be notoriously impervious to the house's AC. Probably need to get someone to check out our ducts (ugh)

Adding humans to Minecraft is pretty neato

I super don't understand this new "filtered notifications" feature Mastodon sprouted

In other news, "Firestarter" by The Prodigy came up on a shuffled playlist. That, in turn, made me think of The Venture Bros

"he just keeps saying he's the firestarter, I'm trapped down here with an admitted arsonist!"
