@daveross Quite neglected but https://bbs.decafbad.com/
I have just eaten a bunch of chicken vindaloo made with ghost pepper and I suspect I have caused myself some harm
@davehogg That sounds like it's be fantastic
@davehogg (also I think the vindaloo has addled me somewhat)
@george Oh man, I could have gotten bonus internet points if I had phrased it according to the meme!

Getting closer to having a thing that can send *and* receive messages on the fediverse, but now I'm stumbling over verifying http signatures on the incoming side
@zcampau I might actually stream sometime this weekend hacking on it :)
I am interested in playing around with other bits of the Activity Stream spec, because there *is* more than toots in there. All kinds of activity & object types https://www.w3.org/TR/activitystreams-vocabulary/#object-types

@ryanvis @briancors Kind of a caveat emptor thing, so far: it's like an email address - you have to pay attention and notice that joe@hotmail is not joe@gmail even if one copypastas the other's email sig.
That said, the UX might benefit from more prominent display of the instance from which some particular identity is posting.
Behind the scenes, there are public/private key pairs associated with every account - so there's at least the technical underpinnings for verification
@ryanvis @briancors Yeah, that's fair. Worth figuring out if the alternative is dumping everyone into one big basket :)

Oh hey, so I discovered my server disk was very nearly full. So I deleted some things to clear up space. Then I started to poke at fixing my Mastodon instance.
Then I realized one of the things I deleted was the last backup I made of my Mastodon database.
Yeah, I am not good at computer.
Maybe I can get better at embracing the impermanence of all things.
I may keep camping out at toot.cafe for awhile, though, since I'm still doing inadvisable things to my personal instance in order to learn more about Activity{Streams,Pub}
But my instance has been broken this way since I set it up and I only just last week realized it wasn't getting some messages.
I wonder how many people sent things to me and it just looked like I was ignoring them?
Today's fun is that I don't know much Ruby and I've forgotten a bunch about Docker, but I'm spelunking into my Mastodon install with a shovel & a road flare to see how HTTP signatures work
@krainboltgreene I think at this point it's more about getting a look at exactly what string Mastodon is signing and if/how that differs from what I'm verifying on my server's side
@kellan Oh, yeah. That post ends at sending out a message, but doesn't get to receiving. I think I just had a forehead-slap breakthrough on that front though
Does anyone remember the Usenet Oracle from back in the day?
Tempted to try cobbling together a Fediverse Oracle.
Slightly afraid it'll end in trouble.
But then I'm often afraid of that.
@daveross Yeah, I mean if some nice people play, it's nice. If trolls play, well...
The resolution to this spelunking: I figured out how to turn the User-Agent of my Mastodon instance to "poopfart"
Oh and I also managed to get a look at the HTTP signature signing strings on Mastodon and my server - and figured out where my server was wrong, so yay!
