The thing with leaning into browser add-ons & such, though, is at least then the ad folks can't say browser makers are "usurping user choice" or whatever

@aredridel Can't speak for the culture you grew up in, but you describe the masculinity I grew up with (for the most part) and internalized for myself.
And I don't want to appropriate "queer" for my otherwise aging cis straight married monogamous self - but sweet christmas do I feel displaced.

Downloaded an archive of my old LiveJournal. Been reading through entries this week - because a) I'm a glutton for punishment and b) it seems handy to see a 17-year diff of myself for some perspective
And then I run across one of the entries where I moan about having a mid-life crisis at age 26.
Now 42-year-old me wants a time machine to go slap around insufferable, oversharing, 26-year-old me

And I mean, if *you're* feeling a mid-life crisis at 26 - no offense intended, feel your feelings.
But man, I'm kind of in awe at my past capacity to mope and write at length and in depth in public about it.
(These days I mostly just mope in private paper journals and to my wife over drinks.)
