I wonder if it would make for an interesting stream if I set up some cameras while I try tinkering with one of my 80's 8-bit machines (e.g. Apple II, C=64, Atari 800)?

Like, 1) a camera on me, 2) on the screen, 3) on the keyboard. Could try to get the video into a capture card for #2, I guess.

Run through some BASIC programs, hell maybe type in some magazine listings for the chill monotony.

Got some spare Android phones laying around and figured out how to use them as cameras in OBS for streaming, so that opens up some weird possibilities.

There tends to be a 0.5-2 second lag on the feed from the cameras. But that's not bad for certain things

@lyliawisteria Open Broadcaster Software! It's free/OSS software that's pretty flexible for producing videos or live streams obsproject.com/

@jonbro The app I'm using is IP Webcam and I sprung for the Pro version. Very bare bones but seems to do the right things, has a customizable UI

@jonbro oh and I basically copied the media URL from the browser video interface (it has a built-in web server) and used that as an OBS media source

@wobin I've seen streamers do that and it always cracks me up

@TheHottestPotato I don't know if this is helpful, but I've been slowly tinkering with an ActivityPub bot using Amazon Lambda.

I haven't gotten there, but yeah basically everything except POST to inbox can be static. Especially if you only do server-to-server and not client-to-server

@TheHottestPotato Oh yeah, I could totally something like that working!

@alana same

So I was thinking about making some tables for retro things in my office from doors and filing cabinets - and sweet jeebus are filing cabinets expensive

@sivy Ohhh yeah, I've heard of that place but have never been!

@pauloppenheim I'm lame: I've never been to property dispo despite even having lived in Ann Arbor for 2 years, a bunch of years ago

This guy reworked an 80s black & white vector Asteroids arcade board to display color. Holy crap.

(i have one of these in my basement and i'm trying not to make it nervous with my significant eyebrow waggling)

Oh wait, not quite 80s - Asteroids was 1979!

Like, I've got this funny impulse to learn a bunch about hacking & tinkering with 80's era electronics partly for nostalgia. But, I'm not sure it'll translate to anything practically useful.

(Most of my hobbies tend to, in some way, sharpen my saw for what I do for a living. Maybe I need to ease up on that.)

@Supernova Yeah, I think he changed them just because he could. Sounds like there's further hacking in store, along with adding a speech module

Seriously, I want to eat this guy's brains to steal his knowledge. He also built a 36" vector monitor and has Gravitar running on it youtube.com/watch?v=Mni5y54U_q

Being cold is like my least favorite thing.

But one of my most favorite things? Being cold but within a foot or two of a hot radiator.

Almost wish I was small enough to nap on top of our radiators like the cats do.
