@GeoffWozniak @sigue I'm cheered that it seems a lot of us have the same idea :D hackers.town/@lmorchard/109259

@taur10@venera.social Yeah, I pretty much just want an extended franchise of The Adventures of Holtzmann

Moved on from The Crow to watch Flatliners in my lil Halloween movie fest. Thinking I might queue up Brainstorm after that and then maybe Hellraiser before bed.

I kinda want to find more psych horror involving relatively clever people getting in over their heads. Like, as opposed to dumb people doing dumb things. I don't want to feel superior to the dummies on screen, I want to feel like I could fall for the trap.

Like, my favorite horror is the forbidden knowledge kind of thing. Or, arrogance that draws the attention of predator forces. Not, like, moralistic punishment for teen promiscuity. Gimme the shit that's like insanity by non-euclidean geometry but without the racism

(though, like, I do find it incredibly hilarious that HP Lovecraft's greatest cosmic horror was apparently the inevitable doom of white supremacy)

Also, I really like Flatliners, but the plot is basically that these full-of-themselves medical students kill and resuscitate each other and as a result become tormented by the same class of 4am middle-school mortal cringe memories that I experience on the regular, except spooky

@yojimbo I think we've all been there

(well, i've been there, anyway)

Pumpkin carving time

@GeoffWozniak @sigue itโ€™s a very stylish movie, the dude plays sad electric guitar on a rainy roof top several times

@onelson oh yeah, thatโ€™s the one where a machine letโ€™s them see bitey worms in the air, right?

@onelson that movie is definitely my jam

So, I wanted to post things not about the inevitable heat death of the birdsite. But, like... $20 per month for a blue check? I've been on that hellsite since very shortly after it started, and I have never wanted a blue check. Yikes.

My wife had never seen Repo: The Genetic Opera, so I put it on for us during dinner. Halfway through, she decided that going to bed would be more culturally enriching. I don't know that I can disagree with her judgement

@robdaemon I love it, but I can also admit that it's an awkward musical. But also I will watch it every year

And now it's time to see how disappointed I'll be with Hellraiser (2022)

@DrGoldfire Heh, yeah, I am absolutely like this is trash and I will remember most of the words to the songs

Huh, okay. That was about as Hellraiser as Hellraiser gets on video or film. I don't think I was disappointed

Halloween gravitas

Also, I'd seen a lady on TikTok advise coating the cut edges of a carved pumpkin in vaseline to make it last longer. Was about to try that when my wife suggested it might not taste good to the squirrels. So I didn't do that, because I do want to see these things just absolutely nommed by our tree friends

@caseynewton ๐Ÿ is still mandatory
