@zkat might even use my happy hacking pro 2!

@jalcine @danhon I kinda liked my iPod Touch, a bunch of years ago

@rose_alibi Love Shack by The B52s

Cosmo is in snuggle jail for his crimes

Missed that Freezepop released a deceptively cheery vampire slaying tune for Halloween

@crash Best thing I ever did was export my blog from a database into a pile of markdown files with YAML front matter.

Basically the Jekyll format, but so easily managed in a git repo and processed with a pile of other static site generators.

My current solution is a static site generator I built for myself

@Macross Hahaha okay that picture definitely needs a content-warning

Hmm, I'm starting to think the Advanced Interface for Mastodon is really challenging Firefox on an instance with lots of traffix

Could challenge other browsers too, but Firefox is what I use. I wonder if it's just accumulating all the updates and never removing anything from the DOM?

@sungo@nymwars.org Yeah, I got all the things open and a few pinned hashtags to boot.

Huh, well, it does seem to cull posts in a column from the DOM after a certain amount of time. My federated timeline seems to stay within 20-40 posts at any given time if I'm just letting it run

@sungo@nymwars.org Firehoses will be firehoses I guess. I'll try hiding that for awhile and see what happens

@katexcellence that's what you say now...

@crash @theruran @technoid_ @thegibson I keep thinking about finding or building a fediverse-flavored multiplayer link sharing thing like ye olde del.icio.us or pinboard. Just opt-in, only index links you want it to, searchable later. 👁️

@twobraids yeah, I think it's especially lately turned into an inhumanely high pressure hose.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Thank you.

@shengokai not verified, but I did get ahead of the curve twitter.com/lmorchard/status/1

@neilhimself@mastodon.social Hey, you look just like that guy who made my favorite comic book!

@GWillow@mastodon.social oh hey, you made more of my favorite comic books! :blobwave:

So, the squirrels have started feasting on our Jack-o'-lanterns and I'm pretty happy about it

Remember when folks were like "haha vertical video, you loser" and then Tiktok was like "haha tall rectangle go brrrr"

@Belghast @BalooUriza 🤷‍♂️ Vertical video because that's how a phone gets held. There'll be more of it beyond Tiktok

@Kye I feel like he pulled a neat magic trick. I went into the show expecting transporter dick jokes and he snuck into producing an alternate reality ST:TNG

@Belghast Yeah, I think the thing is, though, there are a great many folks who don't really use a desktop for that experience almost ever. Desktop/laptop for work, phone for getting away from work

I'm frustrated by a lot of things, but I have to say that attending a conference keynote for work on my phone while I take a walk would have blown my mind as a kid.

Also, fraught as it it, it's equally mindblowing that what I'm listening to is someone conversationally describing a program and an AI model writes the code as she talks.

Also I'm wearing flannel lined jeans which is like wearing hardpants with secret pajamas

@onelson My coffee pot runs on a timer that I didn't reset, so there's a catch-22 of a delay in the production of the thing that gives me the capability to understand the time change

@adapalmer :blobwave: Thanks for sharing beautiful things!

(part of my bio here might also be cribbed from ada palmer's books)

@mav I keep stubbing my brain on "oh yeah, I could get a cheap Pi for this stupid idea" followed by "they cost whatnow?"

@pixel @bcgoss Well, you can also do multiple choice polls, so tabs AND spaces is a possibility just for extra chaos

I have, alas, gotten back on my bullshit and set up a development environment for Mastodon hacking. Hopefully it doesn't start a fire in my basement or in any data centers.

Also, it's really handy to have a $25/year linux VM in the cloud with lots of net bandwidth to which I forward ports via autossh from trash computers in my basement.

Like, rather than messing around with opening ports on my home router, the trash computers connect out and the VM in the cloud exposes ports or makes them available via nginx reverse proxy. If anything misbehaves, I just unplug it

@joshua I'm sure there are much easier ways to do this but, yeah 🤓

@banjofox2 I have occasionally found really decent, actually not scammy deals via LowEndBox lowendbox.com/

@emma I've been using RackNerd for a really low-end VPS, it doesn't need much in terms of resources to just be a glorified proxy

racknerd.com/kvm-vps

@onelson @banjofox2 Yeah, these guys seem at least decent for my tinkering purposes? I think I got in on a black friday deal a few years ago and got one of the $36/yr nodes for $25

racknerd.com/kvm-vps

@onelson @banjofox2 I keep expecting them to shut me off or be scammy, some form of too-good-to-be-true. But so far so good after 2 1/2 years
