@banjofox2 @onelson Yeah, there's some really cheap stuff out there for hobby-grade shenanigans if you're willing to possibly put up with not much customer service or maybe even reliability πŸ˜… That said, I've never had a problem with this lil VPS.

@banjofox2 @onelson Yeah, that sounds a little more serious than what I'm using mine for. If mine went away, I'd barely shrug

@vertigo @rc2014 I'm really starting to think I need to acquire one of these things for myself as a holiday PTO project

Random, completely awful idea that appeared in my head during a shower:

I wonder if anyone's tried making an adapter for a USB-C Android phone that hooks up to a JAMMA arcade cab?

@maddiefuzz I'm going to shove earplugs in now

@socketwench @maddiefuzz Random funny thing about that shelf in the background of that scene: It shows up again in Next Gen as, like, a pastry display

@mDuo13 Yeah, I'm thinking like there are Pi-to-JAMMA boards, MiSTer to JAMMA, why not old-android-phone to JAMMA? (I mean, besides it being a goofy idea)

@thomasfuchs whoo boy

@maddiefuzz Would you still have to walk through the showroom maze? But it's just a treadmill in a holodeck?

@jumar @mDuo13 @avaloniaui Ohhh, nice. I have a Mac Classic that I've been rehabilitating for awhile!

@jumar I lucked out and got the battery out and capacitors replaced on mine before it was bad. Still behaves a little weird, but mostly works

@natalinajune I was kind of in a mood for it, since I'd just gotten sucked into Caves of Qud and then watched some Roguelike Celebration talks. Kind of looking forward to goofing around with the code some more

@tschak Oh, that's looking super keen!

@Mossop yeah, this is kind of a grungier ngrok with my own domain. They definitely have much better tools for that stuff. I also have a few more persistent toy servers like a tiny tiny rss install, gemini server, occasionally a telnet bbs

@fred @Mossop i keep meaning to play some more with tailscale!

@sdwilsh Been using RackNerd for it over the past couple of years. Lots of other cheap providers over on LowEndBox

@coleens_ feel like your life is going nowhere?

I spy a smashed pumpkin from my office window and I’m a little sad it isn’t either of ours. But, the squirrel feast continues apace. Been cold this week, so they’re staying rather well preserved

Three crows having a pumpkin breakfast and I want to befriend them

Elon birdsite ftc mess, self-executing godwhims

Whew dang, what a line!

@CorvusRobotica 10 out of 10, no notes

@polpo That is a ridiculously keen machine

@onelson @parataxis I think it works, at least in local development. Default admin user is like admin@localhost:3000. Haven't tried it on the open internet though

@explodedsoda I've been putting out peanuts over the summer, but the crows have been standoffish. I made friends with some squirrels and scrub jays but no dice with the crows. Maybe they'd like the kibble better

@Roshanamn I hated this current timeline up until this point

For years, I've had a notion for a tattoo that I've never quite worked out visually.

Something like "1122 1.2.2" or maybe "761 2.10" as a reference to Postel's Law - i.e. "Be liberal in what you accept, and conservative in what you send"

Don't want it to look like a bible reference and it's maybe slightly fraught, but it's a thing I think about personally.

Not like liberal vs conservative in politics, but in terms of personal behavior.

I also have another idea that I might have mentioned here before, for which I do have a visual notion:

"Move Slow & Fix Things"

The words surround the ampersand, which is a turtle holding a wrench like the old Turtle Wax mascot

@pixel Yeah, at one point I thought "I'll get RFC1122 1.2.2 tattooed to the inside of one of my arms" - but I think that'd look too much like some other numeric arm tattoos with really awful history

@thegibson @jens Pull the emergency briefcase from the hole under the floor boards and put on the fake moustache while driving to the next town

I keep forgetting that this software offers the option to add a personal note on someone else's account. I wished for years that birdsite had something like that so I could remember why I followed someone. Trying to remember to use it here

@TQ For me, a tiny part of it was getting a new pen especially for it and a journal with nice paper, so it felt like new toy day. It eventually sunk in

Also, this milk crate is still one of my favorite things I still have from college

@TQ Yeah, that's a good question... I kind of just... started? then stopped. then started again and eventually made it a cozy routine? hmm. this is terrible advice

When I was in college, my dorm window overlooked a loading dock for the university center. Abundant empty milk crates. By sophomore year, I had several major pieces of furniture almost entirely composed of milk crates and duct tape.

@TQ I made it a bit of a breakfast routine away from my usual desk, along with a light therapy panel during the winter and cats also showed up.

@TQ Oh, and since you know about Morning Pages, you probably know this, but one thing I keep having to remind myself of is that my only rule is to fill 3 pages. Doesn't matter what I write, could be kvetching about how I don't have 3 pages worth of thoughts. Like just babble until I've used up enough ink and paper

@TQ Ah, yeah, how it's worked for me is that sometimes I just ramble without point and sometimes something really interesting comes out. Mostly it's all about opening the channel and offering bits of my head the opportunity to surface things without much expectation besides the ritual

@lori Have you ever seen Rockbox? I had an iPod classic running it many many years ago and it was neat rockbox.org/

@maddiefuzz @lori @liz Just got a sudden urge to revive my iPod since I remembered what box it was in, but then I remembered the only cable I have for it is Firewire 😱

re: Ironic thing about CWs

@tlhInganHom Also I cannot often resist opening a troublesome box. Never let me near Pandora's nor Lemarchand's

@rasterinterrupt :bobdance::dance_cool_doge:

:birdsite::trashfire:

I still check the birdsite occasionally and I see lots of "leaving twitter" posts. But with the folks I follow, half the time it's a user and half the time it's an ex-employee. :blobwhee:

@kerri9494@mastodon.social timeline goes sideways!

@kerri9494@mastodon.social (also, holy crap)

@Lrrr What are you transitioning to? I've been using a Synology for years & years and trying to decide if I want yet another one as an upgrade or switch back to something DIY

@retrozombi Yeah, I think they're just notes for yourself

re: lewd joking, meta

@maddiefuzz as foretold by prophecy

I daydreamed that there was a mastodon instance exclusively for neighborhood cats and it was really interesting to keep up with their goings on

@leopardboy I have! But I haven't checked it out in a lil while...
