Went for a bike ride today and there was a neat train. Wish Iā€™d gotten a good picture of the engine

@zrail I think it was! I hadn't heard of it before, but it was very festive

Oh hey, here's a better video of that very train I saw today! youtube.com/watch?v=F9LREjxacJ

So, hey, who remembers webrings? Want to join my fediverse ring and be verified? I'm trying a thing šŸ˜„

(P.S. if you want to join, let me know and I'll add you. It's a quaint manual process, at the moment!)

fediverse-webring-enthusiasts.

This ring is manually maintained right now by me pasting addresses into a CSV file. But, once I do that, a page gets generated for each new member. Could move it to a Google Sheet if it takes off

If this thing works, I'd like to see other folks start their own rings too!

This is why I wish I could post an image map, though šŸ˜… Kinda ugly but sorta works?

@sivy Oh no! Guess I should boost my Glitch

@sivy Yeah, I think so! Might have caught me with my site down, so you didn't get a green check. May have to remove & re-add it to trigger verification again. (Not sure if that rescans occasionally from mastodon)

@sivy Yay! Yeah, looks like my site thinks you did it right

@ryandaniels @sivy I was also being a cheapskate and hadn't paid to boost my Glitch account yet. Looks like that got me back up & running now

This thing is also pretty grungy and experimental. Kind of a bummer that folks only get 4 metadata fields on a mastodon profile. I'd like to see that just plastered with links to rings and other verified associations

@usul You say you want to join and I paste your address into a CSV file. It's a very bad process šŸ˜…

@fred @usul Heh, yeah, that's on my todo list. There is a github repo for the site generator, but I figured it'd be fun to start with glitch and very retro to use CSV

@sivy Yeah, I've seen a few blog posts go around about it. You can set up some hardcoded webfinger resources even on a static blog site that points to a fediverse account on a different domain

@fred Yeah... it's just a little rough if I want something that's mostly compatible with instances in the wild. :/

@sivy But yeah, I figured the reverse-verification thing would be a nice touch to show that you gave me permission to add you to the ring since both pages point at each other

@elithebearded Hmm, weird... I was lazy and didn't add a description though šŸ˜ž

@sivy Hmm, there should be this rel="me" link back to ya

@maddiefuzz Yeah, I wish there was more room for verified links. I've added you, though! Let me know if you want off the ride at some point :)

This is literally my MVP (i.e. minimal viable product) profile registration interface for the fediverse ring šŸ˜…

I have notions to build an activitypub bot to let folks self-serve adding & removing themselves from the list.

It can also run off the CSV share URL from a Google Sheet, which could be interesting if groups of folks want to maintain a ring. Also Glitch has some collaborative editing, and there's also GitHub itself.

But, I wanted to get it rolling and see if folks would be interested before I put too much effort into it.

@mjgardner Hmm, good question! Pretty sure I'll need to add the new address, though. We can see what ends up happening!

Here's your link!

@craigmaloney Ohhh, I'd missed they had a boxed set out!

@craigmaloney I think I have all their albums (including London and the crowdfunded stuff) but the rest of the stuff would be neato!
