@calcifer @c0debabe Yeah, I remember way back when I was a "Perl Monger" in the 90s & 2000s. There's a focus & hinge of community & conference-going & kind of tribal participation in that sort of thing that can be both advantageous and limiting. I remember being, like, antagonistic about Python at the time. Seems very dumb now

Huh, well I guess one way to increase supply availability of Raspberry Pi widgets is to lower demand by pissing everyone off

@dominik They hired a new guy and introduced him in a problematic way, then went full dumbass in the replies

Me, I want a hula hoop

@slowenough@mastodon.social Ohh, the actual verification part needs to be a URL in your profile metadata hereabouts

re: cops, Raspberry Pi meltdown joke

@montag And the theme song for Magnum just fired up in my head

@benbrown @miketatum @mathowie Not exactly the same as Google Reader - actually more Reddit-y - but there's also Lemmy in the fediverse lemmy.ml/post/363093

@benbrown @miketatum @mathowie I also have a vague notion to tinker with something del.icio.us / pinboard.in smelling as a fediverse attachment

fediverse meta; gotosocial

Got a docker container running with GoToSocial, pretty dead simple and using sqlite as the database. Really neat "headless" kind of activitypub server, needs an external client like a phone app or pinafore.social

Not sure if I want to use it (yet) as a personal instance, but it seems almost perfect as a service broker for some bots?

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@technomancy Well, I've got a dozen such trivial things running on my server and docker's a nice uniform interface to all of them.

I'll probably try GTS outside a container if/when I try tinkering with the source. But, hard to beat docker-compose up -d as the one command to remember for a bunch of things

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@technomancy I'm very lazy, oftimes. This is also similar to why I barely ever know how to run the debugger for some particular language, but I always remember how to spew crap to the console for printf debugging 😅

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@technomancy Oh, during development is a whole sidebar of headaches alas. For deployment, it's a much better story IMO

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@danhon I think some more brain cycles across the fediverse spent looking at things other than mastodon would be valuable.

I don't think it's impossible to move off mastodon to another activitypub server, but it's not a happy path. (Heck, moving between mastodon servers isn't exactly on greased rails right now either)

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@danhon IMO, a thing that's probably worth leaning into on the fediverse is that the main thing to preserve are your contacts.

Your posts are probably better thought of as ephemeral / tied to where they were posted - if only because all the servers across the net that received your post have it indexed at that origin. Like, there's no "moving" your posts, there's only re-posting at a new location. If you want longer permanence & control, link to a blog.

re: fediverse meta; gotosocial

@danhon I guess a better situation for "moving" content could be worked out, but it's a bit like having to tell everyone who's ever received an email from you to change the "From" address in their received folders
