@cypnk I may be wrong but I think at some point, we temporarily defederated from dot-social.

But, doing so suspended all known dot-social users. They weren't unsuspended when we re-federated. (tl;dr: I don't think it was personal)

@thegibson @cypnk This software moves in mysterious ways. Which, you know, is what you want in software

@zkat Wow, that's a real quick turnaround from "maybe you should ask around and attribute" to "we're receiving hate"

@maya If I was ever that kind of techbro, I'm glad I grew out of it

@Irick have you seen the Centurion minicomputer restoration saga from Usagi Electric? youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnw

@Irick heh, i was like either you’ve seen it or you’re in for a treat 😁

@danhon the virus is natural though, it’s not all made of chemicals

@veronica_claire@eightpoint.app @siege FWIW, a bunch of years ago, I wrote a thing resembling a book while goateed. At this point, I wouldn't recommend anyone attempt a reading-like interaction with it. I can't say whether or not the beard contributed, but you are probably onto something

So, last month, I was scratching my head at how to animate a few boxes and arrows in some documentation. I figured it out, albeit in a grungy fashion.

And now, behold, I have blogged about it! (bring blogging back!)

@endomain @venko what about object DISoriented programming? (you gotta keep those objects on their toes)

@annika gotta catch 'em... some?

@danhon ugh, that's a good STUPID reminder for me too I GUESS

Hmm. What if a “quote toot” was a toot with a link, paired with an enhanced preview card implementation that looks for a meta tag on a linked HTML page with the URL of an associated activity streams JSON-LD object representation?

Probably goofy, probably better done with microformats. Might be better than scraping up open graph meta tags though

(probably also something already considered in a github issue somewhere 🤔)

fedi qt meta, technical

Hmm, though one way this would absolutely suck is that it could double the HTTP traffic if mastodon sites fetched the link, then fetched a second JSON resource. At least open graph meta tags have the content right there in one fetch

re: fedi qt meta, technical

@thomasfuchs Well, I was also thinking about like, what if I could associate a static HTML page on my blog with a JSON activity stream resource that describes it as an Object for activitypub context. That could come with all kinds of toot-relevant info not directly given in the HTML

re: fedi qt meta, technical

Oh, and by "meta tag on a linked HTML page", I mean something like this in the head:

<link rel="alternate"
type="application/activity+json"
href="https://activitypub.example.com/objects/8673509" />

Where the href points at JSON hosted by some service that could even manage activitypub shenanigans for a static site.

(hmm, my markdown shenanigans here may run afoul of mastodon HTML sanitization)

re: fedi qt meta, technical

This also has me daydreaming about a kind of Disqus-but-activitypub to offer bolt-on fediverse shenanigans to generated static web sites

re: fedi qt meta, technical

(also yeah, I think I've just reinvented webmentions but with more convolutions)

w3.org/TR/webmention/

health meh, drug mention

Also I think my long-absent vertigo has staged a comeback tour. Maybe I'll just go self-treat with a few Epley & Sermont maneuvers and a nice big edible for good measure

@rgegriff I mean, we have edit technology now! Just go back and quietly improve the jokes in all your shitposts

@erion I'm not 100% consistent with describing images. But, I've got a long-standing desire to do more creative writing and trying to consider image description as an ongoing writing exercise 😅

@StephanieZvan What ever do you mean? Didn't Mastodon just newly condense into existence out of thin air as a number of folks stumbled upon it in late October 2022? (sorry in advance for the snark)

@hkz That perch looks like a fun achievement for him
