Whew, so we got a lot of snow in Portland. Probably won’t melt for a bunch of days.

Hoping wind doesn’t take out the power. Watching a snow-laden tree branch flirt with my internet fiber. There’s a temporary roof of plastic sheeting over the partly dismantled deck that’s also our kitchen ceiling, hoping that holds.

On the bright side, the heat’s on, it’s sunny, we’ve got a couple of freezers full of food, and 4.8kwh of batteries charged in the basement.

And having said all that, I just saw a big dude trudge by in sandals & shorts. I grew up with midwest winters and I wouldn’t even try that on these six-inch-deep snowy sidewalks

The one sad thing is that I just realized the old spare motherboard I have in this machine maxes out at 16GB RAM. It could really use some moar if it's going to pretend to be 3-7 computers at any given time

I know this is old hat to a lot of folks, but this virtualization thing is pretty neato. (I mean, I've used it every day for years, but usually via command line and in datacenters)

I'm also kinda hoping that hackintosh install running iCloud Drive and Syncthing can replace a MacBook Pro that I've had running as a kludge to sync data from iPhone to some linux servers. So far so good for the spoofed serial number nonsense that enabled my Apple login

@ottergoose Yeah, someday I'll probably resign myself to acquiring a mac mini for these sorts of shenanigans
