Sci-fi story idea: The Last of Us except 1000 years later when all humans are gone and the fungus has established a thoughtful & sophisticated civilization all over the planet with a budding space program in the works.

Ohh or even better: humans and fungus are thriving together because some folks worked out that the fungus is sentient and negotiated symbiosis.

I’m just kind of tired of stories where the core is “You know who the real monster is? People. Especially in cities.”

Like, there are big stories to tell in that framework but man it’s depressing

@calcifer Yeah, like I could even see some episodes in a TV show with conflict like "the symbiosis broke down on a remote settlement and the zombies are back and fighting, we need to go renegotiate"
