I'm still learning about it, but I have a hunch that folks who find Mastodon lacking might find some neat things in Calckey

calckey.org/

@gogobonobo Well, technically we have markdown over here too, but hackers.town is running the glitch-soc fork of mastodon

re: fedi meta

@lordbowlich @socketwench You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in kubernetes

@breadbin yup, over at @lmorchard@calckey.social and setup a little instance of my own to futz with

@socketwench @rgegriff 😓 I've thought about that sort of thing but I think my ADHD would make it inevitably a disaster

@tschak Ohh, I think I have all these parts in my garage 🤔

meetings meetings meetings meetings meetings
sandwich sandwich
meetings meetings meetings meetings meetings
OH NO IT'S A REORG

Also I love all these agenda-free meetings, when they're about nothing they're about everything all the time

@phasorburn Haha also no obligation to retain me as an employee if I do that

@controlfreak @maddiefuzz turtles all the way down

The meeting for rescheduling the meeting which just was cancelled, has been cancelled

(a meeting once bit my sister...)

@controlfreak @kainoa @voltur @yojimbo @maddiefuzz multi-thread quoting!! 😓

Just had a video visit with my doctor, the sole purpose of which was for her to ask "are you doing the needful?" to which I replied "I am doing the needful" to which she replied "yes, I see you are doing the needful" so that insurance would continue to pay for me to do the needful

(note that also I have medical equipment which transmits telemetry about my doing the needful, which the insurance people also are sent)

@james Like, I guess you could say YouTube TV is cable television?

That'd be wrong, but you could say it and even believe it. You'd also be missing some important details.

@james It reads like you're saying the definition is "What people think are podcasts" where "people" are who I mean by "you"

@james A podcast is what it is. People can be wrong about it and answer as such in polls. The effect is important details are lost about what the thing is.

And, I have myself heard people use the term "cable TV" for things like YouTube TV and Sling TV and suchlike. No idea what the polling would look like. Either way, those things aren't cable TV

@james A big difference is that there's a cable industry that'd probably make litigious noises if YouTube TV or Sling actually used the term "cable TV" - so maybe it's not as common.

Podcasting doesn't have the same sort of defense, so anyone can call anything a podcast and induce drift in the meaning for the benefit of their product's particular characteristics.

@james It's a comparison of two different forms of media delivery, each with particular characteristics but differently shaped industries

@james It's not about a pedantic technical definition - it's about the practical benefits lost by allowing the term to be captured by silos fuzzing over the meaning.

@james Like, I can queue up a few hours' worth of podcasts in Pocket Casts from a bunch of different sources of my choice and go for a walk with my phone in my pocket, screen off, playing at 2x speed. The "podcasts" exclusively on Spotify & YouTube don't play in that queue for me.

Sure, it's a technical definition, but it's one that enables my choice of usage (or even my choice of publishing)

In a nutshell, my frustration is repeatedly finding "podcasts" that don't play in my podcast tuner. Because they're not podcasts except in vaguely similar shape
