@endomain RSS was also the only way I kept up with blogs using my own software. No way I would bother visiting 1000 individual sites to see if anything was new. These days ActivityPub pushes the crap right to me, so I don't even have to poll URLs.

@endomain I guess a benefit of ActivityPub vs RSS, though, is it is possible to wall off unauthenticated fetches and only send off activities to desired servers

@patcharcana @lordbowlich @rysiek I think one of the last wikis I used for personal stuff might have been Twiki? Or maybe Kwiki? It's been awhile.

Anyway, what it did for an outgoing RSS feed was included the change comment (if there was one) and literally the output of diff between page changes. That was also what it did for email notifications, so I think it just reused that code
