Trying some of my “banger toots” out on bsky and threads for the heck of it. I don’t think I have the Heart of the Poster, though

@emma yeah, you have to like social network with the koroks, it’s kind of annoying actually ya-ha-ha
@maddiefuzz i think if i had that i’d fit in better on bsky
Welp, I thought i smelled it last night, guess it’s smoke season in town #pdxtst
Knocking on all the wood surfaces in my office:
It appears that the 2-drive RAID array in my NAS successfully finished rebuilding with the new "good" drive, while the existing "bad batch" drive throwing read errors is still hanging in there.
Backups to the external drive have all succeeded. Looks like an RMA replacement for the failed drive is en route.
My 20-year-old collection of ripped MP3s & FLAC files is safe, for now.
When the RMA replacement arrives, I'll start the RAID rebuild all over again by replacing the drive with read errors. But, at least then I'll have a fresh backup, aiming to spin down that external drive and stick it somewhere comfy.
Really, the situation wasn't ever that dire, as I recalled that I still had all the old drives from the beginning of the year when I upgraded capacity on this NAS. Checked a bunch of them and I've actually got like 3 or 4 backups of the oldest data laying around as "spare" decommissioned drives.
@thegibson yeah, our sky is kind of a blue with fluffy brown clouds
@Macross @RadicalEdward I'll stick with brands.town, thanks
@Macross @RadicalEdward Although, it's been awhile since I last looked at brands.town and I see the satire has collapsed into spam
Also, going to be on a plane next month for the first time since 2020. I guess this masking-up is practice for a long travel day 😅
@wraithan Yeah, I guess it's a paper mill and an old k-mart? Fun times!
@jimblimey Well, that's just a natural filter at this point, nothing else is getting in there not even air
@randomgeek ctrl no wait cmd no wait ctrl no wait
I just bruised my brain with something similar, trying to run Barrier to share mouse & keyboard between a macbook pro and a windows laptop whew
that thing where you spew out a quick brain dump in a google doc and then later see a bunch of faces of director-level and above folks pop into the header 😬
Apparently many conservatives in my country are just now hearing the term "wet bulb temperature" and calling it fake? WTF, we're doomed
They're like hurr hurr I've survived 105F temperatures every summer since I was a kid hurr hurr.
NOT AT 80%+ HUMIDITY YOU HAVEN'T, DUMBASS. (hint: that's not a "dry heat" like folks like to say)
Another way to look at it is the heat index. It's pretty grim, what heat and humidity can do to a body. Oh yeah, and this chart is for "shady, light wind conditions" not working in the sun
@mos_8502 Yeah, that's real "facts don't care about your feelings" territory right there
Saw someone in an accursed Reddit thread say "If you are drinking ice water that is a huge thermal sink" and that would save you.
Like, I don't think you understand just how much ice water you'd need to physically push through your body to somehow result in the desired cooling.
@Macross I'm picturing this dude just running vinyl tubing through his digestive system for a cooling loop like from an overclocked PC, and even that wouldn't be enough of a "thermal sink"
@alairthephoenix It's a FloMask! They claim it's on par with an N95 mask, but it fits better on my face. So, I think it's pretty good for both COVID and smoke
@cruftbox I do all of these except I've never managed to become a club member. 🤔
(am I maybe crow club member though?)
