I've had "In the Meantime" by Spacehog and "Crazy On You" by Heart alternating stuck in my head all day and I couldn't figure out why.
Oh, right: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 soundtrack

Oh, right: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 soundtrack
Besides the scenes of bad things happening to cute animals, the main thing that disappointed me about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is that what I really want is a completely gonzo space opera with Jack Kirby camp visuals and an epic 70s/80s rock soundtrack.
I think the first GotG and Thor: Ragnarok just about got there, but seems like they tamed things down in the subsequent movies.
I want, like, a ludicrous mashup of Barbarella, Flash Gordon, and The Fifth Element with over-the-top prog rock. Probably need someone French to do it.
I think for me, all the Marvel movies pretty much peaked with this scene from Thor: Ragnarok
@rafial I'm really kinda sad that Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets didn't do better!
@rafial Ooh, I don't know Banlieue 13
@kattni The stickers really help the filtration!
Oh hell yes, another new banger from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board!
@TheDarkHorse If you're at all interested in home automation / IoT stuff, I've been having fun with cheap lil ESP-32 & ESP-8266 boards talking over wifi to Home Assistant.
Very easy to just hook a couple wires between a sensor and the microncontroller, edit a YAML config file, and all of a sudden you got a fancy smart home widget sending stuff to a computer
@genehack I haven't seen that, but now I probably need to!
Maybe I'm weird but these folks make industrial accident postmortem analyses sound like true-crime drama, and I'm weirdly a sucker for a process review where a missed step or two led to a big boom.
Like (flashlight under chin) the fifth stage of the synthesis maintenance shutdown process wasn't held for a full 45 seconds and so THE WHOLE INSTALLATION ERUPTED IN A PRESSURE WAVE THAT SHATTERED GLASS FOR 15 MILES! AAAAA SCARY!
Now, that's a story to tell round the campfire over s'mores.
@TheDarkHorse @kusuriya Yeah, I've gotten boards from Amazon and Alibaba. Only difference I've really noticed is Alibaba is a lil slower & cheaper. They're all kind of knockoffs of knockoffs 🤷♂️
Also, this ESPHome thing is pretty neat - it can flash firmware over USB right from a web browser, so you don't necessarily even have to install any special software.
(Well, I guess Home Assistant is maybe "special" but it's not like a whole programming toolchain or whatnot)
@maddiefuzz gave me a bit of the munchies, tbh
This kinda solarpunk camper and e-bike rig makes me think of the Monk & Robot books from Becky Chambers that I just read
There is a part of me who just wants to wander off with an e-bike and a just-big-enough camper shelter. Winter would probably put a damper on that though 😅
@thomasfuchs These are vintage, they gotta be worth somethin!
@Macross Yeah, I mean the battery handling was a bit, uh, dicey
@gwachob I mean, to be fair, they seem to loop the same 8-9 animations in different orders through the video, but after awhile I've just got it on in the background as stern-experts-talking ASMR
@breakfastgolem Reminds me of the Fruit Fucker 2000
@TheDarkHorse 32 is way more capable, but 8266 is often way cheaper and plenty capable for small things.
Like if you just want a button or a temp sensor to report in, an 8266 is more than enough.
But, an ESP-32 can apparently emulate a whole CP/M retro computer?

@Macross Yeah, I've watched a bunch of DIY solar battery videos, all of which have really kind of convinced me that a high-capacity battery is an item worth a few more bucks to have someone else assemble far away from my home 😅
Y'know, traits in Rust are kinda neat.
@kusuriya register your complaints with this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGfQu0bQTKc
@lindsay you gotta get those numbers up
@banjofox2 @kusuriya The last language for which I was really any kind of partisan was Perl, many many years ago.
These days I'm too much of a flighty ADHD-head to identify with any particular configuration of tools for long. Python, Rust, JavaScript, golang, Ruby-- okay maybe not that one, I'm sick of Ruby
@maddiefuzz PREPARE FOR THE PAIN STICKS
@maddiefuzz @banjofox2 @kusuriya tbh, yeah, it's rails. man does rails make me tired
@Macross oof, spicy pillows in one of them bad boys are real hard to mess with, last I tried
Hooray, I've gotten my little Mastodon export static site generator project to use GitHub's computers for tests and cross-platform release builds just like a real professional project
(it is not a real professional project)
