Happy new Slack UI day, I hope you got all the presents you asked for-- oh wait my producer is telling me it's not that kind of holiday at all
@astatide In the biz, we call that β¨visionβ¨
@mediaarchaeologylab for me, it's LiveJournal (technically still active, like a shambling zombie)
@ShutterbugDoug @mediaarchaeologylab Heh, I miss my local dial-up BBSes too. We had plenty of trolls, but they tended to show up in person at the area code regional meetups
@astatide clearly a signal of ebullient enthusiasm!
@rooster throw some candy in there, stat
@ArtifexUmbra that box would probably make a decent project case, I wonder if I could just get that for free with the beef?
@ArtifexUmbra @Macross Also yeah, lotta crap locked up in the city limits here that aren't locked up off in the suburbs.
Have seen rumblings on reddit and suchlike that Target & Walmart want to go to a model like ye olde Service Merchandise, where you can't access any stuff but instead put in an order at a kiosk or ahead of time for pickup or delivery.
@Macross @ArtifexUmbra Yeah, like the one single advantage the brick & mortars here have vs Amazon (and whole foods) is maybe price but definitely "I can go right now and look at and buy something"
@mhoye Whomst could have predicted that algorithmically generating enormous inventories of digital assets with value based entirely on context derived from consensual hallucination might possibly lose that value entirely?
(I mean, sure, fiat currency is also at least partly based on value derived from consensual hallucination but also I can easily exchange it for an actual burrito)
@funnymonkey In our house, we tend to price everything in units of "burritos" and "roof replacements"
@maddiefuzz bigsexuals
@cobweb I think I lucked out and both email & the app work too well sometimes, meaning I get all kinds of notifications I don't care about
@dysmento So far π€ the replacement drives from Seagate have worked alright, but I'm sure not eager to buy a bunch of their drives again!
@Macross I haven't the foggiest what you mean π¨
@jrconlin @trevorflowers Oh that's neato!
My NAS: "What is my purpose?"
Me: "You repair RAID array"
My NAS: "Oh my god"
Kinda tired of this whole "X (formerly known as Twitter)", "X/Twitter", "~twitter~X" thing that news sites keep doing.
The dude renamed the thing to X, call it that. If it's confusing, that's his dealio, stop giving him free marketing help.
Of course, I'll probably keep calling it twitter just so folks round here can mute the keyword
I do wonder, though - if he really does follow through on paywalling the site - do the tweet embeds all over the place just stop working?
"Trump Privately Frets He Could Be Headed to Prison"
They should just give Trump the treatment he had in mind for Clinton and Biden. Should be fair enough.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity @felixberthold @sdueckert A paid version of Mobius Sync claims to do Syncthing for files outside its own sandbox (e.g. Obsidian vaults), but I don't quite believe it and haven't tried it.
My awful solution is iCloud Drive on the iPhone and a Mac with Syncthing to sync the vault out of iCloud Drive with everything else.
@astatide the kids on the street call these "ghost bones"
@recursive i see you got the premium double bandwidth option!
@maddiefuzz "looked fine on my monitor"
When I used to work in advertising (many many years ago) we had to get everything printed, glued to foam core boards, and viewed in person at multiple distances and sizes
