So, I found an eBay listing selling a batch of several of these Merlin hand-held games from Parker Bros, circa 1978. It was $15, so it became an impulse buy.
They looked a lil grimy and claimed to be "for parts" - which is fine, because I want to dismantle them and use them as non-destructively as possible as project cases for.. something. Not sure what, yet.
Like, maybe touchscreens under the grey button section at the bottom? RGB LEDs for the light matrix? Give it a better speaker and bluetooth? Maybe a mic so it can be a weird voice assistant?
Heck, even if I just made one of them into a nice bluetooth speaker with RGB LEDs synced to the music, it'd be a success

@twipped Me too! I had so many bleepy boopy toys with no idea what they did, so I just pretended they were tricorders or whatever!
So, my couch PC only had 8GB RAM until 10 min ago. Now it's got 64GB.
The performance difference is quite noticeable. Also realized Windows was maintaining a 32GB swap file on the main SSD 😬

I'm watching NASA's eclipse live stream on Twitch. One of the hosts just said "folks, the action isn't over yet" and I'm like yeah this is my kind of sportsball.
Also just fell down a rabbit hole reading about "Quindar tones" - which are the distinctive beeps that can be heard in recordings of Apollo mission radio chatter.
There was a little NASA logo animation in the live stream that ended with a Quindar tone and it was a perfect touch.
I bought one of those Jabberin’ Jack animated pumpkins, mostly because they’re apparently hackable and because I’m a sucker for Halloween. Turns out it’s very stupid and I love it.
Previously, I made a wifi-controllable pumpkin with red LED eyes & mouth. So, this is kind of a Thing for me.
I’ve had a long-standing daydream to turn my house into “that” house for halloween, like go all out with decorations and animated crap. Maybe turn the whole house into a character with led panels in the windows and suchlike. Have never gotten the gumption to actually follow through though.
Maybe if I retire someday, I’ll become a Halloween Guy
