I feel productive: I managed to rip 11 DVDs at work today. I guess I also got some other stuff done too

Between yesterday and today, I shoveled 84GB of terrible old sci-fi & monster movies onto my NAS.
Sadly, 2 of 36 DVDs appear unreadable. But, of course, all of this is probably available in a torrent somewhere, ripped long ago by someone else. Still, I got the satisfaction of handcrafted artisanal piracy on my own equipment in the privacy of my own home.
Now, I'm staring down our complete series DVD sets of Max Headroom, Captain Power, Farscape, Robotech (the macross saga), and Seinfeld.
I may rip Max and the Cap'n, but skip the rest
@robdaemon sigh. okay also farscape, but I am very tempted to just sail the seas for it š“āā ļø
@xabean @robdaemon I will say that there's a Farscape channel on Pluto TV right now just playing random episodes, so I get my fix in that way most days
@dave0 yessir! I used to have one of the ships and played along. It was apparently written by J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5 fame https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Power_and_the_Soldiers_of_the_Future
@antifuchs it totally does, Iām probably due for my 7th whole series rewatch

I almost can't believe that Max Headroom was on TV in the 80s.
And that the first episode has a reporter going after his own TV network for running brain hacking advertisements that make couch potatoes explode.
And the hacking tech they're using seems like a mashup of Terry Gilliam's Brazil and Ubisoft's Watch Dogs (except the latter came later)
@joncruz I think I'm getting Brazil from the mechanical typewriter keyboards and the extreme nostril-cam close-ups in all the video calls. Also keep expecting Harry Tuttle to swing in to fix some of the plumbing all over the place
@mdhughes š¤ correct
@jgarber For a few things I care more about, I've been using makeMKV to rip larger, higher quality MKV videos. For just about everything else, I'm using Handbrake to produce smaller but decent quality MP4s.
Seems to be working alright so far, although a few discs turn into a pile of many tiny videos thanks to the DVD having a huge number of chapters
So, they talked about external wombs on @dtnsshow yesterday.
I just googled "baby grobags" - which is the final episode of the Max Headroom sci-fi series from 1988. It featured external wombs.
Turns out there's an actual Grobag product for babies, these days. Not the same product - external womb vs baby sleeping bag - but it's really weird.
And, oh hey: Internet Archive has Baby Grobags for your academic perusal
@reconbot I've got a handful of those little S31 widgets, they're handy! I used the Tasmota firmware with Home Assistant, since I seem to remember having had trouble with ESPHome. But, I use ESPHome for a bunch of other things, so I'm tempted to give it another try
@jgarber Well, I think I'm stumbling toward sweating menus for some of the nicer movie DVD sets I've got. Seems like MakeMKV preserves those along with multiple subtitle and audio tracks.
I wasn't sweating it for some of these low quality sets of TV episodes and crappy movie collections. But, I may end up re-ripping some, now that I realized I lost subtitles on them
